I have 5 Sunpentown AC-3000i air purifiers that are only a month old and within a few days of each other they started producing a bad odor. The filters look fine. Does it have anything to do with the carbon side of the filter?
What kind of "bad odor" are we describing? Burning electrical insulation (smells like burning automotive brakes)? Something else? Carbon tends to absorb odors, shouldn't be giving them off?
Thanks in-advance.
Same Problem

-   I have the same problem with a 2 week old Honeywell 50250 air purifier. After it rained yesterday, the air coming out smells like a wet dog. So is humidity the problem? It is normally a very dry climate here. There is a permanent large filter, wrapped with a black pre filter. Anybody have any suggestions?
-   It smells extremely similar to marijuana??? No one in my household smokes it... The first week it wasn't like that but we have only had it for two maybe three months.-   jessafaith
