Go to Device Manager. Is the drive listed there?

  • Anonymous May 11, 2010

First off, have you installed any OS(Operating System) such as XP or Vista?

  • Anonymous May 11, 2010

Allright.. I must first ask you just exactly how you "formatted your HDD"? Did you do it with your Recovery Partition? Or did you do a NO-NO, and wipe out the whole drive with a System Disk? Please answer me so that I may be able to further help your situation. Thanx- Lucky4lynn2

After a Format EVERYTHING is GONE... It is a blank thing. It only know to boot from an install disc. So you must now put a Windows DVD or some sort of Boot setup Disc in, and if the Windows disc, you should perform a re-install of the Operating System. As until that is done you cannot use the PC, as a PC. try that and get back to me.

Won't show up as hardware on my mac with snow leopard

Try different blank media i.e. brand and most importantly what the Drive likes and or dislikes, yep not all are compatible with one another, eg CD-R or CD+R same with DVDs

Labtop won't turn on

Turn on, hold F8 button down until boot menu appears. Download Norton Boot Recovry to disc from another computer. Install in ur CD/DVD drive. Boot ur computer. Or install ur operating system disc in cCD rom drive. Reboot computer, hold F2 button down, modify BIOS boot sequence so CD Rom in 1st boot device. Boot computer, repair or reinstall operating system.

Gateway MP8708 Won't boot past BIOS and won't boot into CD/USB/Safe Mode on XP - Blank screen with keyboard dead - Num locks on and wireless light

Somehow your MBR (Master Boot Record) likely got corrupted or possibly your hard drive went bad coincidentally.

Simply, you will start your computer from your Windows CD/DVD install disk, then when at a DOS prompt ( D:\ ) you will then type: FDISK /MBR (press enter).

Find your Operating System install DVD and start your computer with it, then follow instructions within this discussion:
Restore Windows XP MBR without Windows XP disc

Alternatively, review my search results for other instructions:
fdisk mbr windows xp Google Search

Windows won't start up? Well, try this Download Tenorshare Data Recovery from its offical site and install it. Burn it into CD/DVD, or USB flash, put into the computer you need to repair, Bios setting. It can make sure your important data will not lose. Best of luck

If you can boot from a boo-table CD then you hard disk drive has a problem. To boot from a CD disk, power onyour computer and tap the key to bring you to the "One time bootmenu". Insert the CD into the top CD/DVD drive and then select "Boot fromCD/DVD" and hit key. Select the "Run the 32 Bit DellDiagnostics.

My CD/DVD drive won't read/play DVDs and it won't write DVDs either. It used to do this fine, but it doesn't anymore. It will still play and write CDs, but not DVDs. I have tried EVERYTHING to...

You probably will need to replace the optical drive (CD/DVD drive) in your laptop. Go to Google and search for "Dell Inspirion 6000 CD/DVD drive" to find a replacement.
To be sure it's the CD/DVD drive that's defective and not your operating system software, you could also try to boot from a boot-able DVD disk.

Hp presario f700/f750us, cd/dvd player, won't boot from start up but is listed first in boot order, not recognized by windows either, won't read, write or play. tray opens and light blinks. tom...

Check the jumper settings in the back of the drive, by the power cable. Make sure your cd/dvd drive is set to SLAVE, with your primary harddrive as MASTER. Check BIOS settings, specifically your boot order, choose which drive you want to load first (usually HD 0), save and exit.
That's just the basics, though.
Another possibility is that you might just have a paperweight ;)
If so, try another drive.
Hope that helps

Philips DVD+RW SDVD8820 does not recognise burned CD or DVDs

it could be upper and lower filters in registry and system files, use a removal tool called filtercheck 4.6 in CDR-zone.com (goto the forums and search for filtercheck)
after you downoad, run it, click yes to all filters found to remove. close program.

reinstall your preferred burning app (1 prog installed at a time and test burn)
this is to replace the filter entry that was corrupt
