Generic problem for all Remote Controls

I have tried all the codes for the Directv HD DVR. None of them work. I also used it for the Comcast Scientific Atlanta DVR. With that one the volume and channels work, but the DVR does not. Also I have a Mitsu TV. The volume works but the INPUT button does not. If these don't work all together there is no point of having this remote.
