Question about Dell Latitude C640 Notebook

1 Answer

Monitor Hi, My computer seems to be booting properly however when windows launches my monitor goes dark. Not black... It is like there is a screen over my screen?? I can see (just barely) my icons and can shut the computer back down. I cant see enough to use it or do anything on it. I get this sometimes when using the restart computer function but can usually get it to shut down and start working properly after. However, this time it is not the case. It looks like there is still something running ccApp???

Sounds like you may have a bug, you could try re-ionstalling everything fresh, it may need a driver update. Check the funtcion keys. Sometimes you can turn up the screen contrast by holding the function key and hiiting the function key that looks like a white and black sun, Black is for darkewer, white is for brighter.

Also, ost laptops when on battery power, will auto dim to save battery power.

My dell inspirion 6000 laptop screen goes black but sometimes I can see the windows screen but it's very dark. When I attach it to a desktop monitor it works fine but the laptop is still dark. Sometime the...

The back light is the whole of the screen, the screen is illuminated by a CCFL lamp (fluro tube) on the bottom of the screen. A inverter supplies high voltage to this CCFL lamp.
If your laptop appears to boot up and the hard disk LED flashes, then the problem is probably a back light fault. This can be a faulty inverter or a faulty CCFL lamp. Please click on this link and follow my instructions to identify the fault and possible fix :-

The screen goes very dark within a minute after booting up = I can just barely see the menu page

When you say screen goes very dark when it booted to windows so it means that when you turned on the laptop when the dell logo flashes the screen was fine? if thats the case could you please try this. after turning on the laptop you will see the dell logo flashes immediately keep tapping on F2 and then it will show you the BIOS setup utility, please check if in BIOS setup display goes dark as well. If yes then try this, after turning on the computer when dell logo flashes keep tapping on F12 to boot menu then select utility partition to run the diagnostics. Please run test on the LCD check if display goes black when running the LCD test. Then try this when you sees the dell logo keep tapping on F8 to boot in safe mode check if in safe mode display goes very dark. Try this too, boot in F8 then select last known good configuration check if the settings on your display will be fix. If you can boot to safe mode no problem then uninstall the display or video driver. then restart computer.
You can also try to connect an external monitor if you have one just try to isolate if issue is on the LCD or the video card. If the display is dark as well in external monitor then video card needs to be reseated if fails then replaced. In situation like this most video cards is integrated to the motherboards. So replace motherboard.

Hi,

This sounds like a resolution problem.

Can you move the windows messenger out of the way so you are looking at the Desktop screen (usual screen which has icons on it which is the first thing which appears after it has gone past the welcome screen)

On the desktop screen right click on a clear bit of space and try and change the resolution.

Failing this if you have an alternate monitor or LCD TV with VGA monitor input try use your TV and by outputting to your TV you will probably have enough of the screen displayed to copy what you need.

If all of the above fails. Best thing to do is to take your laptop Hard Disk Drive out of the computer and slave it into another computer or laptop to copy your documents / pictures etc as you clearly stated your not interested in reparing it. If your not sure how to do this then please come back to me

use the F8 button before windows starts. as the laptop show the manufacturer's screen. keep tapping it gently and fast until you get froted with the bootup options screen. Select whichever option reads the word "VGA" in it. Then it will boot into windows. Enter the multiple screen setup (could be hard given that screen could show all icons and windows big) and select proper settings. Restart the PC and ensure the options remain active.

When I turn on my computer it begins the boot then goes black

Try booting into safe mode. That will disable all drivers and use generic windows drivers to send commands to the devices. If that still doesnt work, id say that there is a problem with your OS installation. Backup your files using an external harddrive enclosure and reinstall the OS.

Laptop monitor goes black

If you're working on the computer when that happens, it's not probably a power setting. Try to update your BIOS to the most current version at the toshiba support website (support.toshiba.com) & see what happens. Fixes the issue most of the time

I hope this helps.

Screen problem Hp dv1000

The main two causes for this, are the inverter, which supplies the screen with the proper amount of power in order to function correctly, or the screen. If the inverter isn't puting out enough power it will cause the screen to darken or black out completely. Start by checking the screen connections. If all the connection are properly seated, the it's either the inverter or the screen it self.

Screen goes blank(not Black, but dark) after windows boots

Perhaps it is trying to power an external monitor. Try this: Once your computer boots up, hold down the "fn" key (usually bottom row of keyboard) and then hit the key that shows what looks to be a monitor on it. Usually on the Toshibas, its the F5 key. This key will always be in the F key row. Let me know if this helps.
