Question about Dell Latitude C640 Notebook

1 Answer

Monitor Hi, My computer seems to be booting properly however when windows launches my monitor goes dark. Not black... It is like there is a screen over my screen?? I can see (just barely) my icons and can shut the computer back down. I cant see enough to use it or do anything on it. I get this sometimes when using the restart computer function but can usually get it to shut down and start working properly after. However, this time it is not the case. It looks like there is still something running ccApp???

Sounds like you may have a bug, you could try re-ionstalling everything fresh, it may need a driver update. Check the funtcion keys. Sometimes you can turn up the screen contrast by holding the function key and hiiting the function key that looks like a white and black sun, Black is for darkewer, white is for brighter.

Also, ost laptops when on battery power, will auto dim to save battery power.

When I connect my ASUS monitor to my Dell laptop the ASUS monitor displays nothing instead it says "No Signal"

Hi

You do not say if your laptop screen is working or not or why you want to use an external monitor.

Assuming the laptop has no fault and boots properly, to send the laptop image to an external monitor, once you have booted into Windows, press and hold the Fn (function) key bottom left of your keyboard, near the Windows Logo key, then simultaneouly press the Function key (above the numbers) with the image of 2 monitors, 1 dark, 1 bright (often the F4, F5 or F6 key).

If the laptop's screen is faulty and the above procedure does not work, there may be damage to the graphics card which will probably require specialist repair.

I hope this helps.

Envision G19LWK Monitor out of range?

Hi,

It seems that you might have changed your Windows resolution to a much finer resolution that your monitor cannot accomodate. Restart your computer. Once you get a black screen (before the computer powers up), tap F8 repeatedly until you get the Windows Advanced Boot Option similar to the picture below.

mongkey.gif
Highlight safe mode with networking by pressing the "UP" arrow key then press "enter" key twice. Log on to your account. Click on "start". Open "control panel". Launch Display settings and change resolution by sliding to the lowest or to the left. Press "ok" button. Restart your computer to Normal mode. Change desired resolution from display settings which your monitor is limited for.

I hope this works for you. Kindly comment for further assistance. Thanks for using Fixya!

Our monitor just recently stop working correct. It is on fine during boot but once Windows starts up, the screen goes dark after about 2 seconds. If you turn it off and back on, we get a screen again for...

try reinstalling the os.
there might be file corrupted in the system folder,,,
since the monitor runs on start up , we cannot say that it has a hardware defect...
reinstalling or upgrading your windows will help..

Monitor displays breifly then goes to blank screen

If tried the monitor on two other computers with the same result -- definitly your monitor is faulty. Take it to the repair shop. To make double sure, run your computer with another monitor. If everything is fine now; you can blame the monitor.

My monitor works for a little while, then goes black.

Your power-inverter board needs an overhaul.
Probably in need of the standard capacitor replacement.
OR
a bulb in the screen is bad (a bad bulb will usually show symptoms)
It will flicker, or will look pinkishish for a bit or dark in the middle top or bottom of the screen.

Screen goes blank(not Black, but dark) after windows boots

Perhaps it is trying to power an external monitor. Try this: Once your computer boots up, hold down the "fn" key (usually bottom row of keyboard) and then hit the key that shows what looks to be a monitor on it. Usually on the Toshibas, its the F5 key. This key will always be in the F key row. Let me know if this helps.
