Question about Refrigerators

Sub Zero side by side loud noise when the fan/motor is running

It always ran very quietly and now when the motor kicks on it's much louder - no banging or clicking just sounds like a beat up motor - when I open the panel above - it doesn't look like I can easily access anything (blocked by a large white panel) i thought maybe I could check filters, fans etc. for debris or wear. Help! Thanks.

The freezer side of my Sub Zero is rattling. It stops when I open the door. I've checked for overloaded shelves or something in the way. That doesn't seem to be it. My model is a 680F.

Good day, Nancy
In addition to what the good drcool indicates, try this too.. When you open the door, it is going to cause an overall shift in the weight to the Cabinet. That's why the noise disappears. What causes it, is the compressor running (that's Normal) the noise is from metal that is just right distance away (about the thickness of a credit card) which needs to either held tight against the cabinet, or further away . It Doesn't mean you're going to have a problem with the unit functioning, but the noise could bother you to the point of..... 3 choices... refer to you're care book, under how to level and follow what it says. Often just a slight adjustment to how its sitting there at rest will correct you're problem. looking above where condenser's located... or the water supply if you have one, sometimes moving it... I would go with the 1st option first.. the others are a little more involved then perhaps, it sounds.. also don't forget to look to see if there is frost on the back wall of the Freezer, Ice maybe forming up the and hitting the fan blade... as was suggested by drcool...thanks for asking.... dean

I have a sub zero 532 and the freezer keeps freezing over. The back is covered in ice and making a loud noise. What part do i need to fix this?

Well, you probably have a bad defrost terminator if the fan is running. If the fan never runs, it's probably a bad fan. the terminator is what tells the heater when the defrost is done so it doesn't overheat. If it goes bad, the self defrost quits working. Another option is the defrost tier may be bad.
If you remove the grille up top the tier is mounted in a panel next to the condenser. it has a little place where you can turn it clockwise with a flathead screwdriver to "fast-forward" it. With the freezer still turned on, turn that timer very slowly clockwise. it will make tiny little clicking noises. turn it until it makes a much louder click. It should now be in defrost mode. If you go too far, just turn it all the way around again. Now wait a few minutes and see if it starts defrosting the ice in the freezer on the coils. if the defrost system starts working , you need a timer. The old part # was 3081180, but the deal should know what you need and be able to cross it. If it does not defrost, it is probably that terminator in the freezer, mounted to the coils just to the right and behind the icemaker. That is much harder to get to . Good luck!

The noise that you are hearing is in the compressor. The motor has rubber mounts that hold the motor inside the compressor. One of these mounts are broke and what you are hearing is the motor hitting against the inside of the compressor. Have you tried cleaning the coils? let me know.

Good day,
On models with 2 compressors the condenser fan motor runs 24/7. It must since the compressors run randomly and that motor must be on since it handles both units.

Fan noise is subjective. It itself makes little noise but the blade does. If for example the blade was changed from the nylon style to a metal blade (good idea) then it would be somewhat louder.
If the noise is not objectionable then I would use it as is.

Sub zero 695 freezer not freezing.

There are a couple of possible problems. If you mean load motor noise as in the compressor then you likely have a sealed system problem. Either a bad internal valve is making it noisy and you are loosing presure within the system. You will need a new compressor if this is the problem. A technician could tell you if this is the problem just by checking the internal low side presures. A few things that I would check before calling a technician is 1. Make sure the condenser fan in the upper unit is running. 2. Check to see that the internal fan in the freezer is operating as well. 3. Check to see that the freezer light is going off when you close the door. If all of these things are working I would suggest call a technician.
