Panasonic tv turned off, red light blinking and now when I turn it on I now have a portion of the screen from top to bottom with a thick black line with no picture

These blinks [flashes] are fault indication (Error Codes). From the number of blinks occur at one time switch ON, you can get an idea about the faulty circuit section inside it. This will make repair easy. These are called blinking codes. Make sure about the exact number of blinking of the standby/power LED, by switching On & OFF the set, for at least two times. It is a calibration problem, let me see if I can find some schematics for your tv.

try resetting it

the problem is the cooling fans they probley need to be cleaned there are two of them i have a 60v710 hitachi too

BLINKING RED LIGHT IS ERROR CODE.

1. Unplug set for a few minutes.

2. Plug back in and turn on.

3. When red power light starts blinking--COUNT THE BLINKS.

4. THREE BLINKS, pause, THREE BLINKS (ETC) IS SHORT PROTECTION AND A DO IT YOURSELF repair for some people. I have complete instructions for this repair.

5. 5 blinks, pause and 5 blinks etc is short on 140 volt line and while not as easy as 3 blink error code it points to places to look at.

Sounds like a solder bridge bewtween the IC pins double check the solder for any pins accidentally bridged with solder.

IN THE MENU FIND COLOR CONVERGENCE,,TRY THAT

THIS SYMTOM MEANS THERES A POWER PROBLEM DEPENDING ON HOW MANY BLINKS WILL TELL YOU WHAT BOARD OR PANEL IS BAD OR NEEDS TO BE CHECKED IT MAY BE A BLOWN FUSE

COUNT THE TIMES IT BLINKs and i can tell you what internal circut board is bad..

Yes, I did try to use the power button on the TV itself. That did not work too. Yes, there is blinking red light too. I searched through several sights and found out that it is an issue with the IC 4511. I could not find a place to buy the chip.


By the way, our local TV dealer asked for $400 to fix this issue. I had already spent $400 on a different repair on this TV, 6 months ago.

Are you from US or Canada? I'm Panasonic authorized and allways Pana covered the warranty after 1 month from the expire date. Call Panasonic Viera service and tell them the story. I'm sure you'll get refound.
Anyway, a horizontal line doesn't mean the PDP is defective. It's one scan IC burned on the SU or SD board (depend where the line is). We allways replaced the SC bord each time SU or SD got burned. If after SD and SC replacement it still defective...yes the PDP has one scan line in short.
Call Viera and insist to get warranty. Let me know. Good luck!
