My xbox is connected through my pc, to the internet via ethernet cable. My pc is on a wireless network, which uses a BT-homehub. Now my internet on my pc is working perfectly fine, but my xbox is says it has limited or no connectivity so I can't go on xbox live. I've looked on the internet and apparently it has something to do with DCHP and finding a vaild ip address for my xbox.I'm really confused I was trying to sort out NAT issues with my xbox but I ended up having this problem. Before the problem occured i had tried to set up a new network using windows xp network connections in the control panel to see if I could set up a network for my xbox could this have caused the problem. My wireless internet is run by Belkin Wireless monitor.

Make sure that the under your Local Area Connection properties, under Sharing Tab that the ICS is checked. this should solve your problem...enabling this makes your computer a DCHP capable server...

Hope it helps!

After your changes. Try powercyling your systems, turn off pc and your xbox. restart your computer 1st. once its stable and able to go to the internet. turn on your xbox...a 169.x.x.x is called APIPA or an invalid IP address. its a windows generated ip address, saying that its unable to detect a DHCP server...

    Hope it helps!

What is the function of the red WAN socket on the back of my BT Homehub 5?

The red socket on the back of the HomeHub5 is to connect the Hub to an Openreach modem and thus provide a network facility for the whole house, wireless or via ethernet cable. Since the Homehuh 5 has the modem built in anyway it seems a bit redundant unless you have an RJ45 (ethernet) plug connecting to your telephone line rather than the more usual similar but slightly smaller RJ11 plug which goes in the grey socket.
By the way I thank you for your testimonial and could find no other way to answer it than answering this former question of yours! Maybe I'll find a better way later on !
Anyway all you need to connect your Netgear is to use an ethernet cable from one of the yellow ports on the HomeHub and then configure the Netgear as necessary to act as a wireless access point, or wired router. The HomeHub5 is however quite a good wireless access point working at both 2.4Ghz and 5GHz bands to give you the best speed, as well as the network ports (yellow) on the back.

Can I connect my HP PSC1510 to my BT Homehub v1?

yes, you can. I have my printer connect to my hub and my desktop and I can print from my laptop wirelessly.
You will need your all in one connected via a printer or USB cable to a computer AND also connected to your hub. Then, go to the computer that is connected through a cable to the all in one. Your all in one should have some way to configure its IP address. I have my printer configured as 192.168.1.4 and it's plugged into the 4th port of my hub. Check if this works.

Networking problems

Ok you need to set DHCP OFF, go to Start>>RUN>>services.msc then scroll down until you find DHCP Client,. set to OFF & disable it. Reboot. Now login to router and ensure DHCP is ON. That is that problem sorted. So try that.

Networking problems

I think you need to register the MAC address of your xbox. Try to call your ISP or xbox people to register your xbox mac address so that you can use in wirelessly. They need to clone the mac address of your xbox so that when you need to use your router it wont have any problem connecting to the internet.

BT HomeHub wireless router which cannot connect to the XBox 360

your router may have incorect connection settings. what i mean is that your router may have security on that rejects connecting to adapter. check if the xbox can connect to the internet via ethernet cable. this will tell for sure if the 1 the adapter cannot read the signal or 2 the adapter is not able read any signals. to test if its the adapter, try searching for other signals.if you find any other signal it means your router. is rejecting to send the signal to the xbox.

I have a wireless router hooked to my computer & my son recently got a wireless-G USB adapter so that he can play his xbox 360 online. Will this work, or will we have to put the router on the xbox...

XBOX 360 will only work properly with a 'genuine' USB WIFI adapter designed specifically for it (and at an over inflated price IMO!).
One popular way to play 'network' via the internet is to connect the XBOX 360 to your PC via Ethernet cable and have the PC connecting to the internet either via another ethernet connection or more likely via a Wifi connection which could be via your USB adapter connected to your PC and talking to your Wifi Router)

Wireless not working from netgear wg311 to a new bt homehub2

Hi Backatya,

Check what kind of security you upgraded BThomehub 2 uses. Since the hub supports more security-types then your adapter does, I suspect an incompatibility there.

You can solve it by connecting through cable and changing security to WEP or WPA (not WPA2).
