check audio drivers and audio settings on the system..... you can get your audio drivers from your OEM original mequipment manufacturer website for the drivers, beggin from the ouside to the inside of your issue start checking for the settings just right click the speaker Icon lower right side audio proeprties if all settigns are ok go to device manager check drivers of your sound card try disabling and enabling it to find any changes uninstall and reinstall the audio drivers on the last Troubleshooting, if all else fails if your system has a factory defaults option on it do so make sure you back up personal data before doing so cause you will definitely lose files on your system......

have you installed the audio output device??
do you have the original cd-rom, which you got with the purchase of system??

Please try re installing your operating system. (Genuine windows
xp or vista recommended)
after this process, put the original company cd-rom in tray and follow the steps.

Have you tried an external output from your laptop i.e connect headphones . If you can hear something then the drivers are properly installed. If not then more likely the drivers have been overwritten by SP2 and u need to install original drivers from laptops website. Check under Control Panel - sounds and audio then see what device is under your sounds playback.
