Sharing printer I connect my brother MFC 240 c printer to the desktop which is using XP SP1. My laptop has VISTA HOME OS. and has a wireless connection to my desktop thru router. The printer is shared My laptop is able to detect the printer. However it can not connect as it is looking for the printer driver for VISTA in the desktop. I can not load the printer driver for VISTA on my desktop which is running XP SP1. Neither was there a browse button in my laptop for me to redirect search when VISTA is looking for printer driver when connecting to the printer Is there a solution

If having trouble go to support for help , make sure your connections are installed correctly where you brought the wireless. You still have a guarantee I just brought a wireless printer and changed mine to wire and plug into my computer. The device is about $60.00 dollars plug and play window will do the rest for you. Then they can troubleshoot your problem with your printer and save a lot of time.

May your printer doesn't fit to your operating system because Windows Vista is one of the complicated OS and hard to find installer or software to fit it in. Try to Replace your operating system that same as your brother have. maybe it can fix your problem!

Hi have a nice day.
I think tranfering your job to desktop first, and then sending to printer, is a solution for now.

HP photosmart used to print wirelessly from my Vista loaded laptops. printer was usb connected to desktop with XP. Had to get new hd and reload with XP for desktop and now cannot configure for wireless...

As your printer is not wireless itself I assume you shared the printer. To enable this again goto Control Panel on your desktop, select printers, right click your printer and there should be an option for sharing. Enable sharing.
Now using your Vista laptops you should connect to your home network (in your case this is probably a wireless router, as long as your desktop is connected to this router too), goto Control Panel, printers, add printer, search for printer not connected to this copmputer (or network printer).
Hopefully the Vista laptops will then pick it up and install it correctly. You may be asked to install the correct driver for the vista machines. Windows should provide you with instructions on how to do this.
Hope this helps,www.PuterCare.com

I need driver

You can use the full driver and software package of Vista! You download the "Full Driver & Software Package" (x32 or x64) from the official Brother site, unpack and install it. There are two folder:

1. Data
2. Setup 5840CN

Now, open "Setup5840CN", then the Language folder and run "Setup.exe" in compatibility mode (Vista or Vista SP1).

Printing remotely from laptop -- can I?

I assume it's a Brother printer not your brother's printer right? I have an HP and it's a wireless printer which is accessible through my network, you have to install the printer driver and software on to the other laptop that is connected wirelessly to your network.

Brother MFC 665CW - Not connecting with XP

I've tried everything including several driver utilities on Brother's own website. I even tried copying all the driver files identified in the device manager on an xp computer that will print to it. My last resort is to download the entire 80mb full software & drivers from Brother. I assume that's how I got it running on the other laptop years ago (but from the original disk that I can't find now). If you don't know where this is, google "mfc-665cw xp drivers" & you'll see a couple links to the Brother website. Click any of them, select "downloads" at the top, then at the left, under "notes," find "click here to see all downloads for this model. Scroll down through OS's until you get to XP & you'll see what I'm talking about. Good luck.

Share printer

First you have to set up a home network between both your computers, once that is established run an networking cable to your printer it should all be ran through a networking hub so all machines can communicate with one another
