I had a similar problem but i still had a warranty but i found out it was a motherboard issue which shocked me..

try charging the laptop fully, not being on either--see if that works
if not, when booting up, you can hit f10 or f1 to get you to the DOS.. you can run bios checks, start up issues, etc.. if your pc is pretty old, i would also suggest, if it's worth it, to take it and be diagnosed if it continues to give you problems..

goood luck! thanks, d

Only 1/3 of the computer screen is usable the other 2/3 has lines and the mouse only works on the 1/3 so I can't log on, What can I do?

Hello,

Try pressing on F8 once it's starting up to boot to safe mode. Use the arrow keys to highlight safe mode and hit enter. If you see the same problem inside safe mode then you need to replace the monitor of your computer. If you don't see it in safe mode, then you just need to update the video driver of your computer. You can use RadarSync to scan and update the drivers.

System control buttons not working on Toshiba Satellite a660

You can adjust these settings on the Make the keyboard easier to use page in the Ease of Access Center. 1. Open the Make the keyboard easier to use page by clicking the Start button , clicking Control Panel, clicking Ease of Access, clicking Ease of Access Center, and then clicking Make the keyboard easier to use. 2. Select the options that you want to use: • Turn on Mouse Keys. This option sets Mouse Keys to run when you log on to Windows. Instead of using the mouse, you can use the arrow keys on your keyboard or the numeric keypad to move the pointer. • Turn on Sticky Keys. This option sets Sticky Keys to run when you log on to Windows. Instead of having to press three keys at once (such as when you must press the CTRL, ALT, and DELETE keys together to log on to Windows), you can use one key by turning on Sticky Keys and adjusting the settings. This way, you can press a modifier key and have it remain active until another key is pressed. • Turn on Toggle Keys. This option sets Toggle Keys to run when you log on to Windows. Toggle Keys can play an alert each time you press the CAPS LOCK, NUM LOCK, or SCROLL LOCK keys. These alerts can help prevent the frustration of inadvertently pressing a key and not realizing it. • Turn on Filter Keys. This option sets Filter Keys to run when you log on to Windows. You can set Windows to ignore keystrokes that occur in rapid succession, or keystrokes that are held down for several seconds unintentionally. • Underline keyboard shortcuts and access keys. This option makes keyboard access in dialog boxes easier by highlighting access keys for the controls in them. If that does not work you may need to visit the web site of your computer manufacturer to see if they have some specific software installed on your computer that controls key functions.

I can't find a button to disable my touch pad on my laptop. the mouse cursor will jump around all over the page.

Hi dwain_ritchi,

Changing the pointing device settings in your laptop's bios is the easiest way to disable the touchpad. Please follow the steps below for additional information:

1. Turn on your computer. Press F2 when Dell logo comes up. It will open the bios setup program.

2. Now, press Alt-p three times to get to page number 4. Near the middle of the screen you should see an option called Pointing Device. Please change it from touchpad - PS/2 Mouse to just PS/2 Mouse (this also works fine with USB mouse). Press ESC to exit the bios, make sure to save the changes.

Hope it helps.

Thank you for using FixYa.

Sounds like a driver issue with the touch pad. You should try and reinstall the driver.

"Tapping" has dissapeared from Mouse section in Control Panel

ok, im not sure how into the settings you have explored, but here is one way to enable the tapping again, select control panel, go to printers and other hardware, next select mouse, next select the last tab on the page that pops up, click settings, then you should see a page that shows settings for your installed device, i think the second option down should say "tapping" click the check box to enable... hope this helps!

Gateway nv52 notebook screen goes black but is still on, 2 days

I've had the same problem. The problem occurs because the wifi network driver is conflicting with vista. Just update to Atheros Network Driver V7.7.0.356 and it should fix the problem. You can find the download on the gateway support page.

Get an external usb mouse, once you have it plugged in restart the computer. Then go into the device manager and uninstall your old mouse, unplug the usb mouse, then restart. That should fix your problem. Let me know if you need more details.

Laptop issues

it is probably because it goes into hibernation. When they drop into power save mode computers seem to get confused when you wake them up. My best advice is either log off when it won't be in use or turn off the power saving option so the computer won't go to sleep

Mouse cursor flickers and dissapears on Football Manager 2009

Hi, have you check the mouse setting in the control panel?
I think your mouse has a problem if you can verify that the setting is normal.
I would suggest you try with different mouse to narrow down the problem.
Hope this help.
