Depending on the operating system on your Dell. Try right click on the desktop and go to graphics properties or display settings. If the computer can 'see' the TV try to enable it by clicking 'extend desktop to this display'. If you cannot "see" the TV try the detect button and enable it as per above.

I think that you would have a hardrive issue find out if your laptop uses an ata drive or an sata drive and i would look into getting a new one. if you have any further questions you can email me at [email protected]
Boot to the F12 menu, see if you can boot to the HDD diagnostics. If not, boot to the Dell Resource CD, run the HDD diagnostics from there. If Diags fail, replace the HDD. If they pass, boot to the Vista DVD, then run a repair of the operating system
I have the same problem with a Hitachi CP-X345 Multimedia Projector. My Acer Aspire 3630 Laptop cannot be detected but it works without incident with a Dell Vostro 1500; just plug and play. Desktop settings to second screen doesn’t seem to help.
