Question about Dell Dimension 8200 PC Desktop

1 Answer

Dell 8200 I replaced the hard drive, with a new seagate hard drive I brought from dell. I used the recovery disc, to load the widows. I follow all the directions, but it won't finish. It boots up to windows then goes blank. It won't bring me to the next level. I called Dell, and was on the phone with them for almost two hours, they said it was my memory. Can you help? thanks Dana

yes it formated, then loaded, but it won't give me the screen to go forward. I went to F2, then it goes blank, the screen blinks the next page but doesn't stay. Could it be the memory? , or is my disc NG. or what. I want to repair myself, although I do need help. Dana

Wow..that's bizarre..

I'm assuming you had to format and repartition the drive, right?

when you boot to windows, press F2, and go to set up to make sure that it's looking for the new drive.

from what you're telling me, the new drive could be compromised. if you can't run a full format/partition, and your recovery disk is known good. then the disk is suspect.

One more thing..do you have an Operating system disk to boot from, instead of the recovery disk?

How do I format the Dell 8200? Do not have any disk to restore the hard-drive...

Either you order a recovery disk from Dell or you use a Windows install disk that you can borrow from a friend and your personal key. Later you wil gonna have to install all the drivers.

I have a emachine T6520 that I'm trying to get to work. When I put in the recovery disk it freezes during the reconfiguring. What can I do?

Maybe you should try to do a "destructive" restore. when restoring from the recovery disc, you have the option to do a "destructive" or "none destructive" system recovery. if you choose to to non destructive recovery, then any virus that may be on your pc will not be removed and this may be the reason why your recovery always stops half way through. note that this will format the hard drive and you will loose all the files on the hard drive, including photos and documents. if this doesn't work then you should try to find out if you have a hardware problem. you can download one diagnostic software from seagate, that you burn to a cd. you use this as a boot disc, like the recovery disc, to test your hard drive, memory and motherboard to see if you need to replace any components. the most common problem is the hard drive. http://www.seagate.com/ww/v/index.jsp?locale=en-US&name=SeaTools&vgnextoid=720bd20cacdec010VgnVCM100000dd04090aRCRD

Error loading operating system

If you take a hard drive for one computer to another the windows wil have to be reinstalled as windows looks at the hardware configuation and if it doesn not match, will not run. If the 20 gb hard is working , reinstall it then using backup software back it up to another hard drive. That will work. Personally I use" Acronis true home" software to change a hard drive but their  are other  wil also work. Some  backup and transfer softwware even come with the replacment hard drives.

Dell Dimension Desktop 8200

Dear Sir:
This could be due to bad hard drive or file system damage if the below steps doesn't work please contact the dell support for hard drive replacement if you computer is in warranty.

If this is the case, restart the computer to the Recovery Console, and then use the chkdsk /r command to repair the volume. After you repair the volume, check your hardware to isolate the cause of the file system damage.

To do this, follow these steps:
1. Start your computer by using the Windows startup disks, or with the Windows installation disk if your computer can start from the CD drive. 2. When the Welcome to Setup screen appears, press R to select the repair option. 3. If you have a dual-boot or multiple-boot computer, select the Windows installation that you want to access from the Recovery Console. 4. Type the administrator password when you are prompted to do this.

Note If no administrator password exists, press ENTER. 5. At the command prompt, on the drive where Windows is installed, type chkdsk /r, and then press ENTER. 6. At the command prompt, type exit, and then press ENTER to restart your computer. If this procedure does not work, repeat it and use the fixboot command in step 5 instead of the chkdsk /r command.

Let me know if you need any further assistance and if you have a moment to accept and rate the solution I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks,

Mohammed.

Will This Hard Drive Work In My Dell 8200?

Yes it will work. You probably will have to use the CD that came with the drive to make sure the HD is recognized.

Motherboard blew up

I would recommend buying a replacement computer, and install the Dell IDE drive in an external 3.5" IDE hard drive enclosure. This way you can pull your information off the the Dell hard drive, and then blow it away.

Keep in mind that new computers use a SATA drive, your old Dell '8200 has an IDE drive. Also keep in mind that your Dimension 8200 drivers won't work on the new computer.

You might be able to install your Dell drive as a slave if you have an open IDE channel available.

Good news is, your old Dell uses RAMBUS memory, which is worth a lot. It's a good parts computer, and most people who look for computer parts know of the bad capacitor issue on Intel made Dell motherboards from that era.

Dell hard drive

If you can figure out how to remove the hdd, you can just use the restore discs to reinstall the OS using the windows key on the machine (usually a sticker on the side). You wouldn't need to rebuy a key.

Good luck getting that hdd out!  :)

Hard drive replacement w/system restore disc

After installing the new hard drive, you'll need to boot the computer from the recovery disk and follow the instructions to format the drive and install windows. You'll also need to install drivers from the driver disk after Windows is up and running. If the computer won't boot from the recovery disk, you'll need to access the "setup" utility and set the CDROM drive as the first boot device. To access the setup utility, press the Delete key after turning on the power. I hope this helps!
