Ps3 reverse compatibility

My ps3 does not have reverse compatibility with ps2 formated games. It says that the disk is not "psp format", even though I can play "Black" just fine on my playstation 2. How do i troubleshoot? What components do i need to download?

40 gig systems are not backwards compatible so if you have one (ps2) games can't play on that system

Playstation 3s are only backwards compatible to an extent, only some playstation 2 games will work on a playstation 3 you should try some newer playstation 2 games and if they work then its the game if no playstation 2 games work check the internet for some updates for your playstation 3.

I thought playstations are all formated to play any made of equal or lesser p.s. value such as p.s.3. should play p.s.2. games

I believe you're asking about backwards compatibility. While I agree a PS3 should be able to play PS2 games, it's sadly not always the case. While they all can play PS1 games, not every PS3 can play PS2 games. PS2 compatibility depends on the model.

Backwards compatibility with PS2 games has slowly been phased out. The original PS3's had hardware emulation (quite literally there is a PS2 inside of your PS3). The later revisions had software emulation only (PS3 processor pretends to be the PS2 processor), and then none at all. No slim PS3 has backwards compatibility.

Hardware emulation:
20 GB PS3 Fat/Original - Model CECHB01
60 GB PS3 Fat/Original - Model CECHA01

Software emulation:
80 GB PS3 Fat/Original - Model CECHE01

In my personal experience, there's no real difference between software and hardware emulation in terms of actual game play. Software emulation has a few hang-ups on some older games, but overall it works pretty well. And it's infinitely better than not having any ability to play PS2 games at all.

Playstation 3 hard disk files corrupted???

hey ash,

ps3 Hard drive needs to be manually reformatted and checked for bad sectors.

as what youve said, you already formatted it and yet it still says there is a corrupt system file.

when i say "manually formatted" you have to clearly take the hard drive out and format it using another pc or ps3.

If I find a ps3 which also plays ps2 disc (earlier model with starting serial# CECHA), will it still have the blu ray capability?

It should, yes. Blue-Ray is integrated into all lines of the PS3 console, while PS2 compatibility is not. The reason for this is PS3 disks are along the same type of format as Blue-Ray, speaking generally of course. PS2 disks are a different format, and the type of player needed to use them even varies among the PS2 consoles. Some PS2 games can't be played on more then half of the ps2 product lines, it depends on how old the game and console both are.

I bought my son a ps3 with 120mb memory for xmas after being told that it will also play ps2 games. Now we can't get the ps2 games to work. is a download needed ? or was I lied to by sales person ?

Well sorry to tell you this but the 120 gig ps3 does not have any backwards capabilities whatsoever. There is no downloads to make ps2 games work. Either the sales person bold faced lied to you, or they had no clue what they were selling. Sony only came out with 2 systems that have backwards capabilities, the 60 and 80 gig systems, although they are limited and the 80 requires a download. Sorry for the headache, if I were you I would give that sales person a good piece of my mind.

What games beside ps3 games are compatible with the ps3

It depends on your system the 40g will play ps1, but not ps2. The 60g or above will play both.

Hey buddy FORMAT DISC means PAL games or NTSC games format.

There are 2 formats dics in this world for the PS1,PS2,PSP,Wii,Gamecube.etc

They are [NTSC] and [PAL]

[NTSC] is for North America and Japan ONLY. [NTSC] is Original games.

[PAL] is for Asia Only. Which is copied games form the Originals.

I need to know were did you bought PS2 Console from ?

If you bought it in North America or Japan then you have to buy and play Original games from North America Only.

If you bought your PS2 in Asia then you can play copied games.

It is most likely your PS2 is a NTSC, your PS2 cant read any PAL games so it will say format dics.

Ps2 memory card on ps3

Hi,
possibly a different format.
the newer system, does,nt recognise the format ( Language ) of the older system
unfortunately, the two consoles are not fully backwards compatable. there are a small amount of games that will run, but not all. check Sony backwards compatability Lists.
