Question about Whirlpool GEW9878LW Electric Dryer

1 Answer

Replaced cut-out and limit switches and still no heat?

When I first replaced the switches, the heating element would light up and seem to be working and heating fine. Now i still have wet cloths and the heating element will not turn on. I replaced the switches because the dryer and element would run for a few minutes and then the element would drop out and dryer continue to run and tumble.

This is one of only a few models with an electronic control board behind the contol panel nex to timer, is your power checks good, and all fuses nad thermos and heater have continuity as well i would look there, nice when theres an obvious blow out on the board but not always the case, it reails for about $60 part num,w10116566

Kenmore model 90 dryer electric will dry the clothes takes a long time. Leaves the floor surrounding the dryer damp actually wet just not puddled

Are the clothes wet AND hot? If so - check the exhaust / vent hose for kinks or obstructions. That includes the cap / flap on the outside of the house.

If the clothes are wet AND cold, then the electric heating element isn't heating likely due to a broken or poor electrical connection, burned out heating element, defective thermostat, etc..

if your dryer does not seem to be drying the wet clothes, first check that it is generating heat. If not, check the vent to make sure it is clear.
If the dryer runs but fails to heat clothing, check the circuit breaker. Most dryers use so much electricity that their functions are divided between two breakers. If one has been tripped, that may be why the heating elements aren't functioning. If the dryer still isn't heating, unplug it and pull it away from the wall. There's a service access panel on the back that should be pried free. Inside, you'll find a small black strip of plastic with two blue wires attached. This is the heating fuse. A replacement part can be had for around $15, and takes a little less than 1 minute to swap out. It's unlikely that the heating element itself, which consists of a few metal coils, is broken. If the dryer still won't heat, you're better off getting a replacement dryer than repairing the old one

My daughter in put a load of wet clothes (not completely finished spin cycle). Now dryer doesn't heat the clothes but seems to have all other functions.

Try running the dryer empty to see if the elements are heating. With the weight of wet clothes it is possible to trip the overloads.
