Can't make phone calls because the mouse cuts in

trying to use my Sony vncx1a voip phone but the red optical mouse light keeps coming on when i try to make a phone call and i can't hear the person on the other end of the call and they can't hear me. I have installed the software. I have unplugged it, plugged it back in, rebooted the laptop - nothing seams to work - please help!
