Hi, new to this whole tech thing. I have as acer aspire 3690 from 2007. I use this computer for my music production. I had used it about 2 days ago. Everything was fine, it shut down like normal . Just today I tried to boot, but nothing. I get a blank black screen, power light is on, and the battery is fully charged. Looking at the computer, even the HD indicator does not flash, like when it's starting up. I had the same problem with my Acer Aspire One ZG5, exhibiting the EXACT same symptoms. Later I read that it can be fixed by a BIOS force flash from a thumb drive. I completed this and within a matter of minutes, I'm writing this msg with that fix in place. Is there a force flash procedure with this computer? To initiate this with my aspire one, I held the ESC and FN keys then powered in the computer until the power key began blinking. with the drive attached, it finished and rebooted to normal states. SOME PLEASE HELP!!!

try removing and re-seating the memory module ... if you need help with this let me know ....this can cause the video to disappear if somehow it jarred loose
try reseating the memory module ..losse memry can cause this issue as well
Try a external monitor atteched and see if the image comes up ...if it does you probably have a burntout backlight or inverter ...thus the LCD or those components will need to be replaced.
if no image comes up then the video card/chip on the system is probably defective.
remember to use the Fn + F4orF7 key to change from laptop to flip from lcd to external monitor and back
Hi traydog761
Whats your status ?
Does it boot consistantly now? I would think that if it does there must be a step we missed and inadvertantly executed ..other wise I am thinking it is the power system that is acting up

helpful, but not the answer to my problems. i still do not get video. power yes, but no video, no post activity.
I did try the memory test. with the old memory that came with the computer. Nothing. I removed the hard drive to test if it would post with the acer logo, nothing. I'm going to try a removal of the bios/cmos battery to see if that might change anything...
Okay, I know its not a video problem...because the HD is not responding. Right now, I'm guessing that it is a hardware fault (motherboard)....
Hello. For some reason, I got the laptop to boot yesterday (03/19/2010), which was weird because it never booted. I do have a completely dead battery installed (they returnted it to me that way) and I never got a new one. Any ideas?
ok. I contacted one of my friends and we got it down to a PCI bus problem. When the computer booted (though not consistantly..took several tries) we decided to take a look at the Device Manager and see if there was anything fishy. We found that the PCI bus controller with one other device (can't remember what it's name was) was diabled due to malfunction. I guess i'd have to get the thing fixed/replaced for anything more to do with it. thanks for all your help/suggestions
