Took monitor apart looking for bad caps split capacitors did not see anything that was obvious. Also checked solder points on board for broken or heated points

  • Anonymous Feb 18, 2010

I am thinking more likely then not something on the inverter board is bad but will visual check the tubes if possible.I will have to disassemble monitor again not a big deal.I will update again provided I find something.Should have brought my DVOM home forgot it at work.

After furthur inspection it appears that a component looks like it contains condensation on the upper righthand of the inverter.I am not certain what the component is but almost looks like a transformer.Looking at the top of the board there are two of these. My apologies for not being able to tell you specifically what the component is.If you check the inverter pic in your link you will see what I am talking about but it definitely looks like condensation.

  • Anonymous Feb 18, 2010

I believe the component that i am looking is one of the inverter lamps

  • Anonymous Feb 18, 2010

yep that would be it the one on the right side looks like moisture is inside the plastic cover of the transformer.Strange it seems but definitely appears that way

  • Anonymous Feb 18, 2010

Any idea what the resistance should be.I could compare the good one to the bad and see what kind of difference there is

First place to check will be the power supply section, look for bad caps with bulging top first, post back what you see so we can guide you more, see example of failed monitors due to bad caps: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums

Inverter/pwr: http://www.lcdrepair.us/e193fpc-inverter-power.html

Next step is to check the DC voltages on the caps next to the heatsink on the right of the picture, there should be 5vdc and about 12vdc on the caps, more likely you may have good power supply since you do see. The problem can be bad IC/transistors in the inverter circuits, or worst case will be the lamps. I use my inverter lamps tester to verify that I do not have bad lamps to narrow down the problem. It will be hard for use since you do not have access to spare parts for troubleshooting down to component level. I wish I can help you more.

The two rectangular parts (.75"W x 1.25"L) are high votltage transformers for the back light lamps, the lamps (4) are connected to the four white connectors at the top edge of the board. I am not sure about the condensation. The lamps are inside the LCD panel that you cannot see.

Please get the number printed on the transformer so I/you can get the pin out of the transformer from : http://lcdparts.net/Transformer3D.aspx

This is what I found about the high voltage transformer: here are the pictures of the transformer I have: http://s807.photobucket.com/albums/yy352...

You should also check the four transistors that are between the transformer, and also the large two blue caps close by. I hope this help.

If you are going to DIY and already try the monitor with another PC, and have proper tools and know safety precaution then please read on:
Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply (they should be replaced in a set), blown fuses; poor solder joints, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed DELL monitors to get some ideas what to look for: http://s807.photobucket.com/albums/yy352/budm/

Dell e193FPc monitor

The backlight or inverter may be bad. With the monitor on and the room dark, hold a flashlight very close and shine it on the screen . If you can see the normal display the monitor is OK but the backlight or the inverter which provides proper voltage to the backlight has gone bad.

Monitor displays breifly then goes to blank screen

The power -inverter board probably needs an overhaul.
I redo many of these.
If the screen was pinkish or flickering before it finally got to this point, it is possible that a bulb has gone bad.
