Cd player does not work

i just rcv'd an AIWA NSX-A10 3 cd player,with an am/fm radio and 2 cassette players....when i insert 3 cds and hit the close button, the tray recedes and it proceeds to pick up all 3 cds ( 1 @ a time) makes 2 scratching, hissing ???? noises after picking up ea disc, advances to the next disc, but does not play any of them...i have taken the cover off & i can see the amber & green bulbs light up fine, but after that i might as well be looking @ a baseball....any help ??????? thanks,billy
