Why can't I print with black ink only when a color cartridge is empty? Thanks.
IT WORKS!!!! GOD BLESS YOU MCGYVER GEEK!!!! YOU SHOULD SELL THAT SOLUTION FOR 10 BUCKS. YOU'D BE RICHER THAN HP!
Because they are money grubbing corporate ****... that's the only reason, there is no valid technical reason why you cannot do so.. it is simply bloody mindedness on behalf of the corporations that dictate the terms...and cash in on your requirements.. sux huh?
Testimonial: "Thanks sir, guess it wasn't me not knowing what I was doing...lol. Does **** though."
Yes you can but they made it almost invisible.
Under 'Paper /Quality' on the bottom you find a small arrow in gray and the tiny printed words 'Color Options'. Click on the arrow and you'll open another level of the menu. Under 'Color' pick Grayscale and you'll activate the next level of the menu. Here you can pick your 'Grayscale Mode'. You choose 'Black Ink Cartridge Only'.
Even here, in the Dungeon of the menu they try to tell you it wouldn't be High Quality, as this is your other option, but hey, ...... it's as easy as this,
"black ink cartridge only"only works if you have color ink in your color cartridges. if your color cartridges are empty, you can't print in black only either. does any one know how to bypass this feature? thanks
Remove the color cartridges and tape over the oval slot that's just above the ink outlet. Apparently the ink levels are read mechanically via a small plunger that correlates with this slot. Taping over the slot fools the printer into thinking the cartridge is full. I got a "cartridge is out of date" warning, but it printed anyway.
didn't work. wish it had.
Unfortunately covering the slot doesn't work :(
