Question about Euro-Pro Shark Steam Mop - Gray/ Purple Vacuum

1 Answer

Vinegar Hello! I really love my new Shark Steam Mop. It is useful for cleaning my Pergo floors without streaking. Can I add some white vinegar to the water or will that damage the mechanism or clog something? I am using distilled water, by the way. Thanks- Denise

Do not add anything to the tank.... Vinegar is corrosive and that would potentially be very bad.

Can I add vinegar to the water and steam clean laminate flooring?

Unless Shark says water only I don't think that would be a problem. All the vinegar will do is remove any grease on the floor and perhaps remove some bad odor. I rinse my hair with vinegar water every day after shampoo and conditioner. Only then do I consider my baby fine hair clean!

Shark Steam Pocket Mop Cleaning Problems

After watching Shark Steam Pocket Mop from the vantage point of Fixya.com for a few months and seeing the many problems that people were having with the Shark Steam Mop streaking their floors and especially hardwood or laminate flooring I decided to do some research and reading about this problem.

What I found was very interesting.

Many people are blaming the steam mop for their problems, when in fact the problem is just coming to light because of the use of the steam mop. It seems that if other cleaners have been used on the floors they leave behind a residue. Then you come along with this mop that produces a heated steam type cleaning and you start to take this residue off of the floors. This then leaves the flooring blotchy or streaking.

So now what do you do with you floors when you get this mop and what will cure your streaking, blotchy floors? There are a couple of ways....

First way is to just keep on using the mop. Many people report that their persistence has paid off and that after a few uses the shine comes back to their floor as the old scum and residue is more completely removed.

The second way is to use a vinegar and water solution to manually clean the flooring before using the mop. This takes a bit more elbow grease, but will get the floor looking really sharp much quicker. Here is a site that tells about that.

So if you are having a heart attack because your mop seems to be making things worse instead of better then don't give up too quickly!! Use it a few times first... it has a 1 year warranty. Or get on your knees with that pail of vinegar water and get the old gunk from all those other cleaners off of your floor first.

The Shark mop gets warm but does not produce steam. This is the second mop I have owned. Bought a new one as I had the same problem with the first.

Just a guess, but I think you have hard water problems. Pour some vinegar into the mop, heat it, allow to cool, pour it out, rinse, repeat. Afterwards, use distilled water if available, otherwise, after every 5 - 10 uses, use the vinegar to remove the minerals from the heating elements. Let us know if this works!

Streaks on porcelein tile from shark steam mop

Try washing your pads in JUST water and Baking soda or Borax (and only about a tbs). Sounds like a hard water problem. I had the same issue with my wood floors so I put some Murphy's Oil in a spray bottle and it polished my floors while I steamed. Perhaps there is a good tile cleaner/polish you can spray with a spray bottle while you mop? Just a suggestion. I haven't had this particular issue with tile (our floors are concrete and wood) but the streaks went away when I started using just Borax in my laundry with them, no fabric softener, no dryer sheets. My mom used to use Isopropyl alcohol in a spray bottle with her steam mop. Make sure your tile is well seeled too, it gives you a better finish. The alcohol dries on it's own too without leaving residue.

My grey & purple steam mop is getting very little steam at the head. is there a way to clean it without damaging the product? or is there another solution for low steam?

Mixing white vinegar with water about a cup of vinegar and a cup of water ratio and let it steam through the mop. This is also good for steam irons and other appliances such as coffee/tea makers. The acetic acid in the vinegar will dissolve the calcium build up that blocks the steam ports and will not hurt plastic or floors. If you object to the vinegar smell, then mix a little lemon juice with the last cup of water and this rids you of the vinegar smell. I use the white vinegar to mop the wooden floors in the house.

I use it on a laminate floor { pergo } and it shows streaks every time. It looks terrible when I am done.

Hi,

This type of problem usually is not he fault of the Shark Steam Mop.
The problem is the old residue left on the floors by other cleaners.
