Question about Sony Handycam DCR-HC32 Mini DV Digital Camcorder

Display on camera is all red and black with static

We have been using our Sony Handycam DCR-HC32 NTSC for 2+ years with no problems. We videotape often since we have toddler twins. I just picked up the camera to tape as usual and the display is all red. It looks red when recording and playing back. I can't find the manual. What do I do about this? I need this camera to be able to record.

I called them and they couldn't tell me anything about it. They want me to send in my camera and prepay $211 plus the cost to ship it to Texas so that I can get it repaired since it is long out of warranty. I guess I will end up doing that, but is this a problem for which the camera was recalled or is there any way I can get them to acknowledge the bug so they will fix it? Thanks for any info. Also, can I still tape or will all the tape come out red? Is this just a problem with the camera LCD or will it record red as well?

We have the exact same problem. Just turned red the other day and it's about 3 years old. We have two little ones as well and are not looking forward to spending a lot of money to "maybe" get it fixed. It wasn't cheap to begin with. Did you find anything out? Thanks. YD

My sony handycam dcr-hc32 turns on, but i do not see anything. screen is black and can't see anything through the viewfinder. common problem? is it fixable

This is usually caused by a defective CCD image sensor and can be repaired fairly inexpensively. However, it's not a user serviceable problem and will need to be repaired qualified service technician.

My name is Rick and I'm a professional repair technician with over 20 years in the business and have repaired many of these. Black and white playback with sony handycam dcr-hc20

There is no problem on your camera, DCR-HC19E is PAL system(European system) DCR-HC20 is NTSC(American system). Are you in US or Europe? I think your TV is NTSC, cause the tape recorded on DCR-HC19E you played has no color. To confirm, connect your HC20 to TV in camera mode, not recording yet, just look at the TV as your monitor, If its in color, no problem, just erase the old video recorded on the HC19E, but if its important to you, you can convert it to NTSC using a PC. thanks

Possibble cause can be the broken flat cable between LCD and Main board. Regards, Arpi
