Why does my fridge not cool, the fan doesn't kick on and the black little tank gets really hot?

A fridge operates due to adiabatics, which is the ability of a gas to absorb energy by compression, which turns to heat, then dispel heat by evaporation. The little black tank is a compressor which compresses the gas in the condensation loop. When the gas is compressed it heats up, so the little back tank will get hot, as will the condensation grid, often at the back of the fridge, which acts like a radiator to cool down the gas inside. When the gas is evaporated into the evaporation loop, it expands again and any rise in temperature caused by the compression will be lost. Add to this loss in temperature caused by the radiator and you have a total net loss in temperature which is significantly cooler than what you started with.
The problem with your fridge has to start with the fan not working as this fan will help to cool the condenser radiator, unless it is a fan inside the unit itself which just distributes the cool air. (without knowing the make an model of the fridge I cannot determine the reason for the fan). Modern low energy fridges have a better and more economical set-up and it seems that your fridge has seen better days. The compressor is clearly working overtime to get so hot and particularly if it never seems to shut down or the fridge cool down. Sadly, I think it's time for a new fridge. You'll save the money you are currently spending on the electricity to run the old one.

Check code engine po171

I'd be more concerned at looking into the fact that it takes a while to cool off in order to start up again. P0171/174 codes mean a lean condition. I'd suspect that you may have a problem with Vapor lock on the one bank, which is causing air to form in the fuel rail on that side. Since air compresses, the fuel pressure doesn't necessarily come up enough to restart the engine until the fuel has cooled down enough to stop boiling. Did this start happening once the weather in your area started getting warmer?

Fix fan

A Cooling pad will do very little if your fan is already clogged up, Try blowing compressed air into the exhaust port of the laptop to free it up, Do not blow compressed air into the fan blades causing it to spin fast, this will cause damage to the cooling fan, short bursts of air into the heat-sink fins should be enough to dislodge most of the dust. if you find you're using it on a bed or on your lap where you're blocking the bottom of the machine, consider getting a cooling pad.

Cans of compressed air can be purchased at computer stores and other specialty shops, it shouldn't be too hard to find, and is not expensive.

Side by side GE turbo-cool Gss25XSRBSS, the freezer seems to be fine, the fridge is not cooling. Fans seem to be running smoothly, no weird noises. Turbo cool turns on. It hasn't been running for

if you go here you can see the damper, fan assy. that's in the top of your machine in the fresh food side
http://www.repairclinic.com/PartDetail/Damper/WR49X10091/1055112
this is a damper with another fan in it,when the t-stat calls for cold air the damper door opens to let the cold air in from the freezer and the fan in it blows the cold air around inside the fridge,if the freezer is fine and the fridge side is warm most likely this is your problem, part number WR49X10091 and it's around 130 dollars.unplug the machine, remove the light cover on the ceiling, remove the 1/4 inch screws and drop the light assy.remove thhe filter cover on the right side so you can remove the damper assy.pop off the cover on the piece that runs up the back center, remove the screws to the damper, read the instructions and put it back together again.should take you around 45 to 60 minutes.hope this helps and good luck.

My Frigidaire Model # FRS26LF7DS7 is not cooling!

Could be a few problems. What I would do is check to see if the compresser is running by pulling out the fridge and pulling the back panel off and putting your hand on the compresser. If it Is vibrating then it is running. If it is not vibrating but very hot then the compresser is dead and needs to be replaced. If the compresser Is cool and not running I would say the thermostat inside the fridge is dead(bad contacts in the control). If the compresser is running but no cooling, the cap tube which is the metering device for the refrigerant into the freezer evaperator could be plugged off. Or if none of the lines off of the compresser are hot or cold then the valves inside the compresser are gone and compresser needs to be replaced hope this helps

Keeps running after shutting off-does not react to temperature co

it is normal for the system to run on its own without being turned on...the compressor motor needs to cool down and will run in an unloaded state. feel the back of the unit while its running and you will notice the amount of heat the motor generates. let it run.
