Question about Sony PlayStation 2 (PS2) Console

1 Answer

Memory Card won't work in some games

I've got a genuine Sony Memory Card, and some games like Burnout 3 simply refuse to register the card is there. However, they register the fake (chinese copy) cards I have, yet fail to save to these either.
I can write to all three cards using the Sony Browser, so I presume the port itself and the cards are not faulty. What could be causing this problem?

(problem exists with Burnout 3 and sometimes with Gods of War, both genuine legitimate discs)

One trick that I found working every time is that turn on the console, pull out memory card, insert game disk and start the game. When the game menu shows up put memory card in. From there onwards games will be loaded and saved properly without this issue.

I have a silver slim ps2 model number SCPH-77001. Everytime I play a ps1 game on it (which it has no problems with) it wont read my ps1 memory card. I've tried it on both slots, tried 4-5 other ps1...

You shouldnt have too. I think I know the problem. Turn on your ps2 without a game in it and it would take you to the home screen. After that go to browser with your ps1 memory card and select it. And then it should give you an option to format it. Hope this helps

My dsi xl won't read my R4i revolution gold

Hey Yenibeth,

I think it may be because you went to System Update and updated your DSi to the latest firmware? Once your DSi console has been updated to v1.4.3 firmware it cannot then be downgraded. If you are using a genuine R4i 3DS card (check on the r4dsrevolutioncards.com website by the way, they do a pretty good guide on the different types of genuine / fake cards. Also see r4dsrevolutioncards.com, they're pretty useful for R4i card info) then you should be able to update the firmware of the R4i card through the "Settings" menu of the R4i. You need to do this on a 1.4.2-or-below DSi console, or a DS Lite though.

NintendoDSCards.com has an info page and a video to show you how to update a legit R4i card (NOT fakes) - click here to visit the 1.4.3 R4i Update page.

If you're using a fake card (such as the R4i Gold, R4i Ultra etc.) then it's quite likely the card simply isn't supported and you'd need to get a new one. Your best bet is to buy an authentic card and simply buy something decent that's upgradable. DS cards unfortunately don't last forever, and teams eventually stop supporting the cards - but the fake ones are terrible at this to be honest!

I personally shop with dscardworld (www.dscardworld.com) and they're great, but that's because I live in the US. I used to live in Sweden and if you are in Europe then nds-gear (nds-gear.com) are just better if you live outside of the US/Canada in my opinion, so pick depending on where you live. Both of those shops are authentic retailers of R4i, Acekard and Supercard by the way (probably others too but those are the ones I've used).

If you're getting a card for a 3DS / DSi console I'd recommend a Supercard DSTWO since it's pretty much just awesome and you can play Gameboy Advance games as well on it. But if you just need a basic card or you're using it on a DS Lite / DS, I'd get an Acekard 2i. Up to you really, I think both of them also stock the genuine R4i's but they seem to be going out of fashion these days.

Hope I've helped, good luck!

I have a play station 2 and I like to play Crash Bandicoot 2.Gortex strikes back, but the memory card won't work is this because it is a play station 2 memory card. thank you John.

First, check to see if your memory card has any room on it by turning on your PS2 while there is no game in the machine. Select your memory card, and see how many blocks are left on it, then see how many blocks are required to save Crash Bandicoot 2 games (should tell you on the game's box).

If there isn't enough room, delete some saves to make room.

If there is room, or you cannot view the saved data on your memory card then try putting it in the other slot. If putting it in the other slot does not fix the problem then your card is either damaged or the data is corrupted. In either case, you will simply need to use a different memory card.

Cant save game data to my sons psp

Hi mr_bagpuss,

The memory card of your PSP needs to be checked. Since you can't save data andgame on it, it's showing that the memory is not properly connected, intact orworst case defective. You can still diagnose the problem by doing these steps:

1. Turn off the PSP.

2. Now take the memory stick out then check if pins are clean.

3. If it continues not to work after checking the pin, try to check the memorycard using your PC. You can simply open the card via card reader.

4. If your PC cannot detect the memory card, it means that the memory card isnow defective. Now it's time for you to buy a new memory card.

Hope it helps.

Thank you for using FixYa.

Ps2 memory card wont work

check the back of the game cover to see how many blocks it will use to save the game data. Your memory card may not be big enough. You may need to buy a bigger memory card to save the data.

My memory card slot 1 doesn't work can I change the unit so that games will save to slot 2 instead or how do I swap the slots in the unit

Hi,

When you choose to save when you are in any game, on the save screen you can choose to save to slot 2 provided there is a memory card inserted in slot 2.
