Question about Canon PowerShot S30 Digital Camera

Black Screen when I try to take photos

I hooked my Canon powershot S30 up to my computer with my USB cable to try and download my photos. My laptop has Vista so I didn't have the driver needed for the camera. I went to the Canon website and found the drivers and they said they didn't have one for Vista so I thought I would try to download the one for XP just to try it to see if it would work. Sometimes I can click on a button on Vista and tell it to run like it would with XP. Anyway, I forgot to unplug my camera during this process. By the way it didn't work. When I did take my camera off the cable the screen was completely black and all of the photos that had been on my card were erased. I could turn the camera on and get the screen saver, and I could take a picture and it still flashes and makes the shutter sound like it is taking a picture but you just get a completely black picture. It's like the shutter isn't opening. I put a new card in with photos on it and I can look at them in the review mode, and I didn't hit the Display Button! Can anyone offer any help??? I am going to FL on Thurs to see my family and I need my camera.

Called Canon and they said I needed to send it in for a repair. There wasn't anything I could do to fix the issue.

Why wont my powershot s30 show up on my computer

Consider NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive. Or you can use any photo cataloging program.

How do i get photos off my camera using usb port?

Most cameras have an output (looks like a phone charger connector). You should have a cable that plugs into this and the other end a usb that will go into your computer. Depending on what OS you are running, the computer may be able to access the photos automatically or you may have to install the software that came with the camera (or download from the canon website). Turn on the camera, plug cord in download. Else take out the SD card and input to computer directly either through SD slot in computer or a SD adapter that plugs into the USB.

Canon PC1045/PowerShot A300 I need an Owner's Manual and a USB cable. I need an Owner's Manual and a USB Cable.

You can download a manual and order a USB cable from the manufacturer's web site at http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&fcategoryid=221&modelid=8775

Before you buy another USB cable, consider this: The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). There are also plenty of photo catalog software packages out there, some free, some not, that can transfer and catalog your pictures so you can quickly find pictures from Susie's birthday party, for example. Just do a google search for "photo catalog software".

I cannot retrieve pictures from my camera. When I plug it in to my USB port, my computer is not recognizing it. I have a Canon Powershot S30, my operating system is Windows XP.

Most Compact cameras come with a software disk that has the photo software pre-loaded. My experience is that once you have loaded the software and uploaded your pictures, you can then convert the file to XP, or better still, to Photoshop.

Hope this helps

Cannot locate CD that came with Canon PowerShot S30

You don't need any special software.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or, despite what I said first, you can use any photo cataloging program such as Picasa.

How do i

Hi,
You camera should have came with a USB cable to connect to a PC. Basically when you connect the camera to the computer, it should recognize it as a removable disc (if you are using XP). Then as a removable disc you can browse and copy/or cut the pics to your computer.

Downloading pics to computer

Could be a number of things...a driver that isn't working...a bad USB cable... But it'd be cheaper/less frustrating to just buy a memory card reader. Your pictures will transfer at least 5 times faster as well.
