I have the same Emerson 32" LCD model. Just bought it from wal-mart 2 weeks ago. Had the same frustration. Finally got the uverse remote to turn it on and off by using the automatic search feature (see the user guide for the remote). It took me like 5 minutes continually pressing ff until it found the code automatically. Try it!
