Question about SanDisk Sansa e260 MP3 Player
Have you tried holding the power button down for about 30-60 seconds? It should power off itself off. You should be able to then power it back on and it work normally.
You might try a firmware update on your daughter's. Look at solution 4 here: http://www.fixya.com/support/t131894-format_sansa_e250
I works for any Sansa e series.
