If you have vista click the start button and in the start search type "hp wireless assistant". It should show up in your list while you type it. Click on it. Once the assistant box shows up, click on "properties". A "settings" box should show up. The main one you need here is "independant controls for installed wireless device". Check that box. The other ones are icons and indicators that you can check at your discretion. If in doubt, check them all. Hit the "apply" button. Then in the upper right hand side of the box hit the button that says "turn on". This should activate the device and if you have a light up indicator on your computer, it should change color or light up. That should do it. Kind of weird how it gets to that point.

I have a Presario MR2305NR with a similar problem, I went so far as to reformat my hard drive and reinstall Windows & drivers. WLAN still disabled! The solution turned out to be so easy:

  1. Toggle wireless button on notebook (that's the one that is supposed to light up blue when it's working). Note how in one position, pop up screen says "HP Wireless Assistant WLAN: Off." In other postion, pop up screen says "HP Wireless Assistant WLAN: Disabled."
  2. Toggle wireless button again so pop up screen says " HP Wireless Assistant WLAN: Off."
  3. Double click on HP Wireless Assistant icon on tray. HP Wireless Assistant screen appears. Button on screen says "Turn On." If button is grayed out so you can't click on it, toggle wireless button again.
  4. Click on the "Turn ON: button. Button now says "Turn Off." Pop up screen now says " HP Wireless Assistant WLAN: On" and it is working again!

I needed to go to device manager and "enable device" there. Turns out the system disabled it due to a conflict.

Usually in device manager you just right click wlan and enable, you can also go into control panel, network connections and enable it there or right click on the icon in sys tray and enable are you sure its disabled and not too weak signal to connect

My wlan (function/F10) key doesn't work/light stays amber!!!!! No wireless internet/Internet only works when directly plugged into PC.

Check in device manager for the wireless card. Right click 'my computer' select 'properties' click the hardware tab and device manager, it should be listed as a network device. if it's listed update the drivers, it may just be disabled in windows. If it's listed as installed and working correctly in device manager it may be faulty.
you can also try running 'cmd' to lauch the command prompt and typing "ipconfig /all" this will show all available devices in your computer and their state.

Good luck.

My m105 works great but will not hold a wireless connection. Please advise....Allan...

Hello

Disable firewall settings to check if it doesn't block connection.

1) Update the WLan driver. In most cases this solves connections issues.
http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/wlan/

2) Go to device manger -> WLan card -> Properties -> Advanced tab and check if the WLan modus 802.11 B/G or N has been set to the same Wlan modules supported by router!

3) Disable the WLan encryption and password on the router and check if you could connect to the router without any security settings. Do this only for testing purposes. If it connects properly, enable the encryption password and try again.

4) Disable WLan power saving! This can be done in Win Power Management. If that doesn't work, perform a system restore, set your computer to how it was the last time you were on the internet.

My wireless was working fine, then when it woke up for hibernation the wlan was not working.

Open Device Manager. In the Device Manager window, click the plus (+ ) sign next to Network adapters to expand the selection. Under Network adapters , click to select the appropriate wireless LAN adapter. On the menu bar, click Action and then click Properties . In the Properties window, click the Power Management tab. On the Power Management tab, click to uncheck the box next to Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power . Some WLAN adapters have another power saving setting in addition to the one on the Power Management tab. Click the Advanced tab and try to locate a power saving setting. If it exists, disabled it. Click the OK button.

WLAN adapter no longer recognized by laptop

We had this same problem too with an HP TX2000 and we tried all the usual things too of updating all the drivers, removing, reinstalling etc etc. We were then getting the signal sometimes and not other times. What appears to have helped was some advice we saw to temporarilly take out the battery and hold the start button for 20 seconds to discharge the capacitor. However, the simplest solution has proved not to put the battery in at all when using wireless at all, and we seem to be able to see wireless networks always. I know it sounds bizarro and is.

My IT friend and I after 3 1/2 hours of phutzing around have soem ideas abour why this might be the case. Firstly this is running the AMD chip which according to other sources seems to be the only one with this problem. Second this computer has a history of over heating. I was also wondering if the battery charger is over heating the computer and is next to the wireless module on the motherboard??? I will leave that up to someone else to work out.

Best Brian

No wireless connection on acer one notebook

1. Try unplugging the wireless router for 30 seconds and plugging it back in.

or

2. If that does not resolve the issue go to My Network Places, Right Click, Properties ... on the icon that represents the wireless connection, right click, select Disable, once the device is disabled, right click again and Enable.

The second set of instructions are assuming you have Windows XP

Internal wireless card has been disabled. How do you fix this?

Hi car7924,

First, make sure that the wireless switch on the left side of the computer is turned on (this should make the WIFI light go on -- beneath the lower right corner of the screen). If it doesn't work, then try going to Start Menu > Control Panel > Network and Internet Connections > Network Connections.

You should see the Wireless Network Adapter in the window that comes up. If you don't, you need to download the driver for that adapter. The most common adapter in the D820 is the Dell 1390 WLAN MiniCard, and the driver for it can be downloaded at the following web address:

http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/Other-DRIVERS-TOOLS/Others/Dell-Latitude-D530-Wireless-1390-WLAN-MiniCard-Driver-A17.shtml

If, on the other hand, you do see the Wireless Network Adapter, but it says "Disabled" underneath the name, then right-click it and select "Enable." This should make it work.

I hope this helps - please let me know if I can be of any further assistance.

Kind regards,
H2H
