Have you installed the software that comes with the printer?
Once that is installed the scan button allows you to scan an image to your PC with just the one button push as opposed to opening an application on your pc getting the source and clicking on scan etc.....
Let me know if software is installed if so I have more questions to help you resolve.

Uninstall your printer software, then remove all data cables of printer(i.e. USB) .Then reboot your computer ,after that reinstall the printer software & do not connect the USB cable unless prompted by the software to do so.Next finish the installation & you are done.

Nothing happens when i press scan button

Nothing will happen unless it's connected to a computer with scanning software running. If you want a copy you press copy and it will scan and make a copy, but if you want to scan you need the software to tell it how to scan, what you're scanning, and how to save the scanned image.
