You need to start the system without a disc then go into setup and reprogram the system for audio setup

HI Guys. I just upgraded to DirecTV HD-DVR ( I have aHR24-200) installed which is connected via HDMI to my Samsung HD TV. I have a Samsung HT-C550 Digital Home Theater System which is now directly...

You're correct and that is exactly how I always recommend setup (contrary to what the manuals tell you). It makes no sense to me to run any signal through any electronics or interconnections that neither use it nor improve it. Hence, I have NO SOURCE VIDEO going to or through my receiver and NO high end audio going to my TV (which could just as well be a monitor with NO audio capabilities, right)?

Audio electronics should receive the BEST digital audio directly from it's root source.
The TV should receive the BEST video directly from ITS root source.

THAT is why most all high end A/V gear has separate audio and video in/outputs.

If that means you have to make some switching choices when using different sources, oh well. At least you won't have experience potential degradation from multiple hops or have to troubleshoot problems that could be anywhere in that chain.

Connected samsung ht x720 (home cinema system 2.1) to v+ box.Cant get picture when playing a DVD.Can hear the sound tough. Thanks

You probably need to change the incoming input signal on your tv.

In other words, your audio is coming directly out from your dvd player, and going directly to the audio power amp.

Your video does the same thing, except it goes to your tv. Your tv has multiple places for "incoming" signals to hook in to it. Take a look at where you're hooking your video in - the input should be marked ... something like "Component 1" "Component 2" "HDMI 1" "HDMI 2" ... something like that.

On your remove, there will be a button that says, "Input." When you push this, you will see that your TV brings up an input selection window. Pressing the "input" button on your remote should scroll through the ports on the tv. Briefly pause on each input selection to see if it begins receiving a video signal from your DVD player.

Maybe because is only read audio, like Photos and mp3 audio only, expecially if read format llike "High Mat" to read photos and music, try to go to instructions manual and see the format what your dvd read.

I cant get my samsung home cinema system to play through my t.v

I bought the optical audio cable ($15 WalMart) and use the Digital In on the DVD player to play the sound through the surround system and turned the TV speakers off. Works great! The optial audio has square ends and looks transparent with just one round shaped cable that goes from the TV to the back of the DVD player.

We have recently just bought a samsung htx250r home cinema. we have a 50 inch samsung plasma, the dvd player sound works using the hdmi cable but the surround sound does not work when we are watching...

Salutations ddog,

Really this is a question of sources. The reason your able to hear surround sound when connected to your DVD player is that is what is providing your audio and video source. When your watching television it would depend on how your getting your broadcasts. If you are either receiving an over-the-air broadcast or cable directly to your set, your television becomes the source. As your television is providing the signal, you would need it to loop back to your receiver to provide that surround sound.

Now for the good news, if you have a cable or satellite box these should have outputs to connect to your receiver to provide the audio source.

Also keep in mind not all broadcasts provide a version of surround sound. Most newer home theater systems will replicate surround sound artificially.

I hope this helps.

Home theater sound

Most plasmas have set of RCA jacks beside or near each video input, be it a yellow composite jack, component (RGB) or VGA (15 pin monitor cable) there should be a red &white set of jacks beside each input. There should be a r&w set marked audio out.thats what you want goin' to the Hi-Fi a/v input. All this is on the assumption that the plasma has no speakers of it's own. if it does, you may need to go to set up menu and check audiosettings on the tv.Your best bet is to go HDVI between the DVD/Sound if you have the ability on both units. Better vid and audio that way.

Too many Cables??

Firstly, let me address audio cables. Optical audio is the same (essentially) as a coaxial digital audio cable, just in a different form. Since you just purchased a Bluray player, you'll see an HDMI out on the rear. This is a high definition video and audio cable rolled into one (however it looks like your receiver does not support this). I would recommend running an HDMI cable from the Bluray player right to the TV, then run an optical audio cable (or coaxial digital) from the TV to the receiver. This will give you the best picture on your TV, and the best available sound through your receiver.

Depending on your DVD player and Bluray player, you might want to consider using just the Bluray player for DVD's and Bluray discs. If your plasma supports 1080p (or really anything better than 480i), you would most likely get a better picture out of DVD's since the Bluray player will upconvert the video to the better signal (of course this depends on your exact model of Bluray player). This will help to eliminate some cabling also.

Other than that, you're not going to eliminate much more cabling. If you really want to get tricky with it, pick up some split loom wire management and wrap them up with that. Be sure to run the power and signal wires separately though! Best of luck, and hope this has helped.

Ringing noise

try changing the cable going out of tv to the system for audio, make sure the cable from tv/sat receiver is in audio out and in dvd player in the Audio In under the Video 1 bracket, then when you turn on the system click function button on the front panel it will show Video 1 on the LCD and that should work.
