use cross cable to interlink between hubs (ex. from hub1 to hub2 & from hub2 to hub3 .... and so on...)

use straight cable to interlink pc to hub

thank you,

Check the following:

Hardware First: Is Vista confirming LAN connection onn that PC, or is it showing disconnected cable?

Is the connection properties showing at least 100Mbps?
Are the RJ45 terminals okay?
Is the driver for the network card recognized by Vista and loaded?

If that is fine, then check the following in the network properties:

1. The IP address you are using
2. The gateway address: it must be the same as the gateway address in the other PCs accessing internet. Run and check
3. The Subnet mask. Use
4. HAve you Setup the Nework using the Setup Wizard, including Access INTERNET THROUGH A HUB THROUGH ANOTHER COMPUTER ON MY NETWORK?

Check those things and let us know. Ask for help from your network administrator about correct IP addresses on that LAN

STP cables - with - Linksys Ethernet 5-Port Workgroup Hub

Most liklely you shouldn't do this unelss you are willing to do the work to properly ground the cables on each end. I'm pretty sure your hub iuses a DC power brick so it won't handle it for youm you'll have to build a breakout box of some sort to do this. Remember that if the cable isn't grounded properly on each end it will actually make things worse.

Running at 10M with Cat 6 cable it is highly unlikely that you will have issues with electrical interferecne even with the the undesirable routing of the cables in your house.

HP Procurve 1700-8 working upto 10m UTP cable only.

It is not a distance limitation of the switch, rather the cabling in the walls and ceiling. If the cable is Cat5 it can be up to 100M, but this can be drastically reduced with things like EM interference from fluorescent lights, kinks in cable and more. The switch auto detects the maximum reliable speed and this interference would cause it to drop to 10MBps. If you don't have a cable certifier (very expensive) you may want to consider simply replacing the cabling run with Cat6 following best installation practices. You can learn more at

Connection Problem

maybe its not in the hub/router, or in your lancard has the problem. try to change the networking cable you are using it sometimes the cable has a teared wire inside, or probably the lancard or your hub does not work for the type of networking cable, there are 2 types of connection for UTP cable first is the Straight through cable and the second is the Cross Over connection. Try to mix and match the cable that you have and try to use another one instead..
