Philips 27TS54 c101 27B800-7562 White horizontal line in the center of the screen

The Problem Philips 27TS54 c101 27B800-7562 White horizontal line in the center of the screen. Color is present in the first half inch of the leftist corner of the horizontal line.
Audio is present and controllable. The green power led from a cold non plugged in state remains solid until CRT goes to ignite. A click is heard then the green power LED blinks.

On the CRT circuit board(picture tube), you will find R3340, which is a 10 ohm 1/3w resistor. The location of the resistor is printed on the bottom of the ckt board. It is burned open, replace with a 10 ohm 1/2w resistor. This will solve your problem. The original resistor was sized too small, should have been a 1/2 watt. This resistor is mounted standing up on ends. Mount the replacement resistor the same way. Be careful and don't get the circuit trace too hot and damage the circuit trace. (it's very small) The resistor is located on the crt(cathode ray tube), pcb(printed circuit board) socket. The resistor supplies apx +200v to the collectors of the r, g, b, video driver transistors. If this voltage is low, it causes excess brightness(excess beam current), causing the set to "shut-down". If the shut-down is too quick, you will NOT see the excess brightness, because the picture tube has not warmed-up enough to display anything on the picture tube. To see if the set displays "excess brightness", you will need to turn the set "on" about 5 to 10 times. This will heat the picture tube enough to display "excess brightness", IF that is the PROBLEM. Of course, there are OTHER defects that will cause a tv to shut down. There are built in safety circuits, that will "activate" if excess voltage/current or heat is detected anywhere in the set.

NOTE Above Answer Is incorrect
My resistors are not numbered the same on my crt board APT187. R4330 not exist GSM 02/20/2008

I had the same problem with a TV I got for free. Phillips Model 27ts54. I took the cover off and noticed the same problem as above that the R3340 resistor did not exist on the PCB board next to the CRT. The resistors are labelled R[0-9][0-9], such as R58, they don't have 4 digits as PeeWee said even though the board itself is labelled APT187. I looked on the other board and those are 3 digit resistors. I used some compressed air to clean the dust off the entire TV while I was looking for the resistors. There was quite a bit of dust. Anyhow, I was going to take a break scouring the internet for a solution and decided to put the TV back together and try it out to look at the symptoms a little better. I noticed that the original symptoms (sound but video has a white horizontal line that is pretty wide up and down in the middle - almost looking like a white box) showed up immediately, but suddenly the TV started working just fine.

Summary: The only thing I did was cleaned the TV internals with compressed air and now it is working perfectly.

My (2) Philips Magnavox 27TS54 C101 have lost the picture accept for one white horizontal line.

Hi Dean,

White horizontal line then the unit automatically shuts off with a led blinking on the front panel is an indication of faulty vertical deflection circuitry.
The most common faulty parts is the vertical deflection IC (TDA9302H) itself. This IC is mounted on the aluminum heat sink near the flyback transformer. You have to replaced it with new one to resolve the issue. Click HERE to have an idea how much it will cost for the parts.

Hope I helped you.
Good luck and take care!

Philips/Magnavox 27TS54 C101/chassis 27B800-7562. Originally would not turn on at all. Replaced C506 (totally scorched) as other posters recommended. Now turns on but only bright white horizontal...

check for power supply for normal dc voltage..try resoldering the vertical output ic or test the vertical output ic dc supply..if there is..try finding some loose connection to the deflection circuits

I have an old 36 inch widescreen Philips CRT TV which has been working fine for 7 years until yesterday when the whole screen just went blue with a series of white horizontal lines. The audio is still OK...

Hello
Since there is a blue screen atleast, I don't think that the picture tube is gone. The fault may be either to its chroma IC or video output section. In both sections fault cases, this type of horizontal lines [parellel to each other at about 1 inch or so apart the entire screen] will be seen. Just check the voltages at the three cathode, ie, red, blue and green of the piclture tube. This can be measured at the picrture tube neck card. If you have through knoledge in electronics, have patience and enough tools to do the work, inform me through Fixya. Without these, you can't work on a tv, especially in Philips.
Otherwise, get it checked by any expereinced service technician. OK.

Ps 27123 have sound, tuning etc only small horizontal color band

Hello bdedrick708,

If what you are trying to say is that you have a 1/4 inch horizontal line across your screen, this means that something in your vertical deflection circuit has failed. This could be the vertical oscillator, the vertical output processor, the vertical coupling capacitor, or the vertical section of the yoke transformer.

If what you are talking about is a vertical line from top to bottom then you are possibly talking about a failed horizontal section of the yoke transformer.

Why so little about the horizontal section of the yoke? That is because if the horizontal section fails completely then you would lose high voltage and no line would be present because you would not have raster (screen light).

In any even check the yoke transformer first. Then work back from there.

I hope this helps,

Thank you,

Typical symptom of a faulty screen voltage capacitor. You'd need a schematic to locate the cap and then change it out.
