Hi,

I am assuming that you are connecting the Dell PC to the Samsung 40 inch flat screen by VGA connector/cable.

Perhaps what might be causing no display in the Samsung FlatScreen is that the video signal it is receiving is beyond its capability. To correct this, pls:
1. lower screen resolution of your laptop's properties.
2. it may also be of help if you likewise lower the screen refresh rate.
Both of the above may be adjusted through the appropriate settings in your Display Properties of the Dell PC before you remove the monitor.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FIXYA.

Your computer is set to a resolution supported by your dell monitor but not the flat screen tv.

The easiest way to get it working is to turn the computer off, connect the flat panel to the computer and then turn the computer on.

To change the resolution of the flat-panel or monitor, right-click on the desktop, click on properties and then select the settings tab.

play with the screen resolution and find one that works best by trying each one and clicking apply. If you select a resolution not supported by your flat panel, computer will automatically revert to the previous resolution in 15 secs.

Trying to connect dell desktop to my Samsung DLP HL-R5064W tv through vga cable to watch movies. Toggle source button on remote to pc, but receive an out of range message. please help

Hi,

"Out of range" message indicates that the output from your computer to display it from your Samsung HLR5064W DLP TV is too large. You need to adjust the screen resolution settings for you TV. I have attached images of display settings dialog boxes from different versions of Windows.

You may open the display settings of your computer by clicking on START > CONTROL PANEL > DISPLAY. While your TV is connected, click on IDENTIFY button. You will notice that numbers 1 and 2 will appear briefly on your screens consecutively. As the dialog box shows 2 monitors with numbers 1 and 2, click on the monitor with "2" on it. Then, adjust resolution to 1280 x 720 as this is the highest resolution your TV can handle. You may adjust the TV (monitor #2) to be IDENTICAL or to EXTEND the display of your computer. You can also assign it as the main monitor but not recommended. Click OK then try to toggle your computer's display. You should be able to see a display from your TV this time.

I hope this works for you. Kindly reply for further assistance. Good Luck!

I have a dell inspiron 1525. I hooked an HDMI

Video cards are weird sometimes. Did you try having the HDMI plugged in while you boot up the laptop? Sometimes it needs an end device to activate an additional monitor. If that doesn't work, then boot up with the cable unplugged and after the laptop is ready, plug the HDMI in and see if there is any "popups" or notifications that clue you into the issue. Then go to your video setup and check the status of the video adapter.

I wanted to hook up my computer to my big screen. what input should i hook up to?

You need to first see if your video card will support this. If it will there should be on the back of the card some RCA out puts or s video out put. You also need to set the soft wear for TV out put and aspect ratio you want 16/1 or 4/3 ECT. If you have all of this then hook up the corresponding video wires to the open video jacks on the back of the TV. I have done this with a Dell Insporon 530 and a 31 inch TV. It works well for Movies, Games and even as a monitor. The out put is all analog for my set up so not a nice and clear as it would be on a HD TV. Good luck on your set up.
