My ps3 froze on me in the middle of a game of madden 10. i turned the system off and back on again but when i put a game or blu-ray dvd in it wont read it. but what has me really concerned is that a disc-read error prompt does not come onto the screen. can u help me figure this out?

First off, have you tried playing Blu-Ray movies/games instead of DVD's?
If you have and only the DVD's work then it sounds like the "blu ray" part of the drive has died.
In the PS3 blu ray drive there is a lens for blu ray movies/games and a seperate one for dvd/cd's. Sounds like the blu ray lens one broke.
The cost for repair of this $150 dollars if not under warranty.
Now before calling sony try this.

1. Update your firmware (if you aren't running the latest already). Yup, this overwrites some of system software that may have been corrupted.
   
   
2. First, back up your game saves, and any music you have on your HDD. Format the PS3! Yup, again this fixes corrupted files on the HDD by forcing the PS3 to rewrite them.
   
   
3. Buy a Blu-Ray cleaner and try it.
   
   

Sadly if these don't work, you will need to give Sony a call, and have that coffin mailed your way.

Please check the region code on the BD or DVD. It should match the region code set in the system. Otherwise the disc will not play

what is wrong is when you got the blue ray set up it was probly set up diff.if it is not reading games or movies then you eye is scrached.the eye if u dont know is what reads everything

If you keep on getting this problem you will need to send it in to get it fixed, or you can actually readjust the laser from home.
To do this you can use a good repair guide.

1st DO NOT EXPOSE THE BLU-RAY FOR ANY REASON - You run the risk of blindness and radiation exposure!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Please advise what FirmWare Version you are currently running on. You can find this under;
Settings>System Settings>System Information.

Once I have this info I will provide you with the best fix if needed but It is probably down to out of date drivers. There have been a number of changes to the blurays drivers recently and if these havent been updated then this will most likely be your problem. To solve this all you need to do is take your system online and download the newest FirmWare update. - There are people who NEVER use the system online for different reasons. Since you brought the system BluRay has gone through 4 upgrades. Any BluRays you buy now wll likely be incompatible for playback with the drivers you have on your system.

What are you saying you screw up your $600 dollar console. OMFG i mean common man. Jeez luis. Well since you have your ps3 already open your ps3 system you should open again and extract cod4 out of your blue ray drive before you hook it up and all that. So take the game out connect the blue ray drive back put the system together and power it up. See if that works.

i bought ps3 and it plays games ok i play a blueray and it had no colour.

sounds like the blu ray diode is burnt.
Send it to Sony for warranty replacement
