Pictorial disassembly guide, that takes you to the step of removing the motherboard, (System Board)

Posted for the pictorial guide, that I believe may help when using the Service Manual,

http://www.irisvista.com/tech/laptops/ToshibaA45/Satellite-A45-remove-hinges-1.htm

The Toshiba Satellite A40-S270 Notebook PC, is one of the Toshiba Satellite A40 series of Notebook PC's.

http://www.tim.id.au/blog/tims-laptop-service-manuals/#toc-toshiba

Go down to the heading that starts with - Satellite A10. Go across, and click on the blue - A40

This is a PDF file. The computer you are using now has Adobe Reader on it, which uses PDF files.

(I would recommend upgrading to Adobe Reader X, though, if the computer you are using now does Not have this version. { Adobe Reader X is Adobe Reader 10)

After you click on the file name, (A40), it may take up to 30 seconds before the first page comes up.

1) Your body carries Static electricity. Static WILL fry out (Short Circuit) the delicate hardware components inside a computer.
For this reason you should buy, and wear an ESD wrist strap, if you do not own one.
{Electro Static Discharge}

Connect it's alligator clip to a good ground source.
(I connect to an unpainted surface, of the metal frame of an open, empty desktop computer case. An Anti-Static Mat is not needed, and I don't want my wrist connected to the utility company's grounding )

2) Use a multi-compartment container for the various screws you will remove. Label each compartment for the area the screw/s come out of.

If no multi-compartment container is available, substitute with a clean egg carton. Label each egg holder.

SOME screws look VERY similar to other screws.
DO NOT mix them up.

3) Take notes, and make drawings as you disassemble. You can also use a digital camera, or video camera, with good lighting.
A personal record to refer back to in case you are interrupted, will prove invaluable later.

Have problems, and/or have further questions, please post in a Comment.

I cant find the right charger im looking for i think it must be an old model its for a Toshiba satellite A40 151

Hello,

I understand you need to replace your AC adapter for your Toshiba laptop computer model
A4-151.

An after market charger is usually OK, if you very throughly check the charger for the connector into your laptop and the voltage and current rating. If you have the bad unit, verify these factors with the supplier I have provided below for you to copy and paste into your web browser.

If any doubt, try other supplier sites as this is the number one problem of trying to get the right AC adapter. The other option is to buy from Toshiba direct, but will pay 3-4 times more.

Good Luck

Toshiba satellite a40-s270 won't turn on

Either the power supply is not working or the battery has failed and will not hold a charge. If the laptop is 3 or more years old, the battery is the likely suspect.

Wheres the ram?

RAM modules must be installed in special locations on the motherboard called Sockets. These memory sockets are what hold the RAM module in place and can range from 1 to 16 or more. Banks consist of a group of 1 or more sockets. A system can have 1 or more of these banks of sockets. If a system has more than 1 socket in a bank, a Kit must be purchased for that bank. A kit is simply more than one, usually 2 or 4, like RAM modules. All sockets in a bank must be filled. Typically you will see 2x512MB or 2x256MB signifying you get 2 units of 512MB RAM modules or 2 units of 256MB RAM modules, respectively.
The Toshiba Satellite A40-S270 has 2 bank(s) which have 1 socket(s) in each bank for a total of 2 memory socket(s). This means the Satellite A40-S270 can support up to 2 individual RAM modules.
Below is a visual representation of the memory bank(s) and socket(s) configuration for the Toshiba Satellite A40-S270.
socket_1.gifsocket_1.gif This graphical representation above details what the memory configuration would look like with the maximum memory installed and does not necessarily model your system memory configuration. This graphical representation is not drawn to scale and should only be used as a general reference. Please consult your system’s user manual for your actual memory configuration.

Upgrade memory for legacy Toshiba Satellite A40-S270

If those are the correct specs for your computer, you can indeed install two 1 Gb sticks in it. The overheating may be caused by a ventilation issue on the laptop. There is an access door on the bottom of the laptop that is held in place with a Phillips head screw, you can remove the panel and see if there are two sticks installed. .

Dont know how to change ram in the toshiba satellite pro A40

Flip it over and loosen 2 screws holding a panel in the center of the laptop.
Once door is removed, it will expose ram modules.
pry locking tabs out, and module will spring UP. remove, and replace reverse of removal.

Keyboard beep

Isolate the issue first. If your using an external keyboard, remove it and test if you still experience it. If not, then there could be a stuck key on your external keyboard.
If yes, then there could be a stuck key on the laptops keyboard.

If there is a stuck key, try to check the buttons on the KB then contact Toshiba to avail of your warranty for the repair.

Hope this helps.
