Open up a Polycom Soundstation EX

Trying to open an older Soundstation EX so I can modify it for a quadriplegic friend. I've got the voice-recognition/control part figured out, but can't get the cover off the Soundstation! DOH!

Thanks.

WHAT battery? Are you serious? There are 3 screws in the bottom - by each microphone. I can lift the cover off a little by each mic, but seems to be some additional attachment by the dialpad.

    Hi Jastababe,
The URL you gave is out of date and just points me to this one: http://www.polycom.com/usa/en/support/vo...
Been there, done that. All their manuals say is to "refer service to authorized personnel" I need someone to tell me how to take the cover off. It's way out of warranty and I don't care about that. Need to get inside to bridge across dialpad switches for voice control.
    Thanks
    Satyam

thanks, but I AM a tech - have been for MANY years, and I've seen many products like this with clever interlocks to keep people from reverse engineering their products, etc. If I just pry on it, it might damage the circuit board or other components. If I take it to a tech, then I'll probably end up paying them to break it and all I'll get is a "sorry." I need someone who has actually opened up one of these units to tell me how they did it? Is there such a person at fixya?
    Thanks

Thanks, maklean. I've looked through the pdf's that you and others have referenced from both Polycom and retrevo - several times, actually, and in none of the drawings do I see any clip mounting. Surely Polycom trained techs no how to pop these covers off. Looks like I'm going to need to call them (Polycom) tomorrow and see if I can speak to a tech and s/he will tell me the secret or send me the pdf or other docs that they use for repair.
Thanks for trying, but breaking the case to get it open as there's too great a chance of breaking a circuit board or component. There has to be some hidden locking mechanism. It's probably what they (Polycom) use to void a lot of warranties.

    ya sir here you go.

that three screws are the only things you need to remove.

now after removing the screws try to rmove the cover.

this can be done by pressing at some corner and removing the cover.

but be careful to handle and do it softly.

this should be done by you only sir. in remote assistance we cant come there personally and remove it for you.

i can just guide you what to do.

if you are not able to do it then instaed of wasting time here please take it some TECH and tel him to do it.

that will cost you less instead of experimenting wiith your product.

    thank you sir

    good luck

Static from SoundStation Premier

Check the phone cable you are using for your POTS line. Attach a phone directly to the phone jack and see if it is clear or static without the device.

The older Polycom SoundStations have power supplies that allow either anaog or digital signals. The phones themselves will work on either.

If your office phone systems are different, or if the extension it was originally plugged into was configured for analog and you are now plugging into digital would explain the problem.

Conference call with a Polycom SoundStation EX

The conferencing capability to bridge 2 (or more) external stations comes from the telephone equipment/service that you have purchased. Either you are behind a PABX or Electronic KSU, which provides multiple phone service to your office, or you purchase conferencing capability from your local telephone provider (Verizon, AT&T, etc). In either case, the way to initiate a conference call would be the same as when you would have a desktop/office phone and establish a conference/bridged call to external parties. Usually this occurs by having one party on the line, flashing the disconnect button momentarily, getting a new dial tone, dialing and connecting to a second party, then flashing the disconnect button again, which signals the equipment to bridge those two calls to your station.  On the SoundStation EX there is a Flash button that provides that capability of momentarily flashing the disconnect button.  Try and see if that works. If not, then you will need to make arrangements to purchase the external equipment or service from your provider.  If you have the PABX or electronic KSU, it may also be a configuration option that you will need to have your support person for your telephone system, activate for that station connected to the SoundStation EX. Hope that helps.

Polycom soundstation Ex - no dial tone

Someone in our office recently damaged the RJ-45 cable for our Polycom Soundstation. Because the jack was damaged I could not determine the order of the cables. After a call to polycom, we found the pinout information we needed - so I thought I would share, in case anyone else finds themselves in a similar situation:
With the RJ-45 prong pointing down the wires, from left to right are:
  • Black
  • Brown
  • Red
  • Orange
  • Yellow
  • Green
  • Blue
  • White
Then Crimp and test. I got this information directly from Polycom for use with the Polycom Soundstation. This information was not easy to get. They originally told me they could not provide the information and I would have to buy a power adapter. This is not true, just trim the cable and follow the above instructions.
