rtpitts solution worked for me on the main desktop PC. Thanks! But Silverlight in this PC showed as 2.45MB before removal. On laptop with Silverlight showing as 1.30MB there is no difficulty connecting to 5300W camera, so this is still a puzzle but the Silverlight removal does get me back on the road with the main PC.

Hmmm..sounds like a settings issue on IE...can Firefox see the camera, due to no active X control? That sounds like an application issue, not a device issue.

How do I use the integrated web cam on my Toshiba Satellite laptop?

There are several ways you can use the camera on your toshiba laptop.
1.) Use a program such as Skype or Windows Messenger; these programs will only use your web camera when you video chat with someone else over the internet.
2.) Alternatively, most Toshiba laptops come with a built in program that you can use to activate the web camera, and you may even be able to record videos and take pictures. This program is usually found in a toolbar on the side of your screen. To use it, move your mouse cursor to the left side of your screen, and something should pop out. The camera can be activated from there.
3.) If this does not work, clicking on the start button (the circular windows logo found in the bottom left corner of the screen) and typing in camera should bring up a program called 'camera assistant.' Clicking on this should also start up the camera software.

I want to turn off the wireless part of my att 2 wire modem

The 2WIRE modem has a built-in web-server.
Connect your web-browser (IE or FireFox or whatever) to that web-server, and then you can configure _all_ the settings inside the router, including a "disable" of the wireless part of the router.

3. Next Calling and Devices on the right and set the Microphone and Speakers to the
computer Audio Card.
4. Next go to the Test Audio section and (in blue writing) click on “Open the call
setup assistant” and follow the instructions on the left window.

C. Windows Live Messenger:

1. After you start Windows Live Messenger, expand the view by clicking on the square on
top left next to the red X.
2. Then on the Windows Live messenger window on the right side, click on “ “Show Menus.”
And then click on “Show the Menu Bar”.

If you are currently participating in an AOL Live Video IM session, a message will display:
You must disconnect the current AOL Live Video IM conversation before running setup. Would you
like to disconnect now? Click the Yes button.
2. The Audio and Video Tuning Wizard will appear to help you verify that your camera, speakers
and microphone are working properly. Follow the on-screen prompts.
Notes:

Wizard will appear to help you verify that your camera, speakers and microphone are working
properly. Follow the on-screen prompts.

appear backwards) when you look at your own camera feed or at the picture-in-picture (PIP) display.
After making the settings your ready for a chat and video talk with your Family and Friends.

After you get your camera installed properly, DO NOT unplug it from the USB port as it will

D-Link 5300w incorrect URL

I have read the manual and it looks like the problem can be fixed by using a paper clip or something about the same size and resetting to the factory defaults. Then go through the setup again and that should clear it up. Also to facilitate remote viewing and control from outside the local network it would be a good idea to go into the router configuration for your home network and assignee a fixed IP address to the camera and then forward the ports needed by the camera to the new fixed IP. The procedure for configuring your router will vary by manufacturer so consult the manuals. Or send a new request with a model number and I will try and help. The camera manual is available at http://support.dlink.ca/products/view.asp?productid=DCS%2D5300 if you need, along with some helpful tips. Good Luck
