Question about Sony Handycam DCR-HC32 Mini DV Digital Camcorder
I have a DCR-HC32 --- the view finder and LCD went black everytime I tried to record anything. Everything else worked great. This happened periodilcally for about 1 year - sometimes I could record, other times black screens. I went to Sony Chat - they suggested I hit the reset button...worked. The reset button is next to the hand strap.

I know Sony had a "service advisory" beginning in October 2005 and it "expired" in October 2007. During that time Sony was willing to fix for "free" what has been a common problem of the CCD Image Sensor going bad (no current camera image thru the viewfinder or on the LCD screen). This did not affect seeing/using the contols on the LCD/Viewfinder screen or playing back previously recorded tapes.
No notice was sent to owners, and it only applied if you called to complian during that period. Nice huh?
Apparently Sony made the "faulty" CCD Image Sensors from 2002 to 2004. So it probably affected units for sale from 2002 to who knows when. Many other camera companies (Canon, Fujifilm, Konica Minolta, Kyocera, Leica, Panasonic, Nikon, Olympus, Pentax and Richoh) purchased these sensors from Sony for their own products.
In my opinion this should have been an official RECALL.
I found from the Sony Service Deptartment, the fix is about $160 + shipping to replace the CCD Image Sensor. I've been seeing used DCR-HC20's going for about $110-$125 on EBAY. The nonworking ones are going for about $15.

The flex wire of the lcd monitor is already cut ...go the service center for replacement of the flex wire...or to the other service center for fixing the flex wire...it is to difficult to fix the wire if you are not a technician cause that wire is like a strand of hair....
