Gigabeat Will Not Turn On - Battery Flashes Then Goes Dead

My Gigabeat has been working fine. But all of a sudden it will not turn on. When I press the power button the battery indicator flashes (and looks empty). This would typically tell you the battery is dead and needs to be recharged. I then try plugging it into my laptop via USB cable to charge, but the same thing happens. The battery flashes for a few seconds and then the unit turns off. I cannot get the unit to charge anymore. I tried switching the hold on and off - nothing. I tried switching the master slide thing at the bottom and still nothing. please help. Gigabeat p MP3 same problem as about. How where i can get or fix the new one

Have you only been charging it with the usb cable?
try plugging it into a ac adaptor, (make sure the button is in the off position at the bottom)
and it should hopefully restart, then turn it to the on when it's loaded, and leave it plugged in till it's completely charged

that might work

The battery has discharged to far for it to be charged via the USB cable. Use the included power supply to plug it into a wall outlet and let it charge there for a few hours.

MES60VK Gigabeat - Dead

There is a switch on the bottom left side of the dock connector of the player. Flick the switch to the right and it should work. The switch is the battery cutoff switch. It is there so it will charge only. I have no idea why Toshiba though this was a good idea, but they put it there.

Frozen

i'm thinking the hard drive is messing up... you know when i dropped my gigabeat S30 it wasn't working n it was freezing and the video files weren't playing at all. it would freeze when i turn on or play video. then i turned it off and then back on using the battery switch. it said "contact the manufacturer for repair" with a yield sign. i really thought i killed it...but i still had my hopes high to fix it myself somehow n i really thought it was from the hard drive. so i took it in my hand and gave it a shake on my palm. like i actually hit it on my palm for once n then i turned it on and it worked =D fineee.... i was so happy n now it still works fine ;)

i hope that helps

Battery is dead

Identical problem - working only with power cord.
Wont power on battery or usb cable.

I actually opened player and check every single option.
(I am experienced electronic - tech.)
Result: battery is fully charged (768 mA/ 3.97V on bench)
Battery switch on bottom fully functional. (switching on/off 3.97V
comming from battery)
USB supply 5.0 V in perfect order.
Conclusion:
There is no "EASY" fix for this problem.
It is either problem with firmware (low possibility)
or semiconductor on logic board (practically not fixable on DIY basis)

I bought my Gigabeat 60Gb for $ 70.00 used on Ebay so
I will live with this problem.

Toshiba gigabeat MES60VK (60 GB) stopped working

There is a little battery cut of switch at the bottom of the device. You can unbend a paper clip and switch it off. Then switch it back on after a few seconds. Plug it back into the usb cable to charge it. It should work ok now.

Gigabeat has froze completely

Turn off the battery with a toothpick or pencil then turn it back on. You can do this on the bottom side.

Gigabeat 40GB screen frozen

well, it would be really easy to take off the battery. The battery is simply plugued with a little 3-pin wire, u just pull on it and put it back in. Now to open that gigabeat, its pretty easy. I even got some images for u. Go at this website (its for the F10 and u have the F40, but its the same thing): http://www.angelfire.com/bug2/gigabeat/
