ruben, the PS1 is the only system created with the capability of adding a mod chip. When they first came out, the PS1Generation 1(PSX)could play burned games and DVD's. Sony discovered that it created an issue with the excessive wear of the cd drive, so they recalled the system. Then they re-released it and it couldn't play DVD's anymore. The PS2 could already play DVD so it has no mod chip function.
No, it will not be compatible. If you would like to play PS1/PS2, and eventually PS3 games, look into buying a original launch "Backwards Compatible" PS3. The model is CECHAO1. Good luck.
try holding you finger over the power button for a while when you turn it on this will reset the video settings, it might be set to a video setting that your tv does not support by a previous owner, i have ran into this problem when taking my system to friends houses
Try wiping the disks in a circular motion with a cotton t-shirt, tissue or cleaning cloth, then try again. If it still doesn't work, try a PS2 game. If it works, try another PS1 game. If the other PS1 game doesn't work, the PS1 part of your PS2 system may be broken. Your PS2 has, inside of it, a miniaturized PS1. If that mini-PS1 breaks, you can't play PS1 games. If the PS2 game doesn't work, you probably need a lens repair. If the other PS1 game works, then your games are defective and you should get new ones.
Try to connect to a different tv, also is the playstation 3 have any abnormal colors on the console, like the playstation 2 is green when on but I think they change to red if something is wrong. You will need to eliminate the problem at a time, hook the PS2 to tv, if it works fine then connect PS3 again, if doesn't look right, then it is no good.
