Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-W100

Please help me! It takes too long from the moment I press the shutter button to the time it actually takes the picture. This is very disturbing when you are trying to photograph a baby or two. Thanks!

If it has changed it's possible you changed the mode to where it takes longer to focus.

for one, this camera has a "constant focus" function that will continuously monitor distance to target and keep the camera in focus, for fastest focusing, switch to this mode. also, are you pre-focusing your images?

Many novices don't know that you are supposed to 'prime' the camera by lightly pressing down the shutter and then when it lights green on the LED light and on the screen, you depress the shutter fully to take the picture. I experience fast picutures this way and I prefer not to even use constant-focus mode. give that a try.

if you don't 'prime' it, the camera basically doesnt know its about to take a picture, so when you hit the button it has to effectively say "OH CRAP picture time!", focus itself, and then snap the pic.

best of luck.

When you take a picture there is a delay before it finishes, so taking kids pics are out of the question..how can this be fixed or is it made that way

If you are referring to the delay when you press the shutter button and when the camera actually takes the picture, this is called "shutter lag" and is common to all point and shoot cameras. You need to learn the "half press". This means that you press the shutter button half-way and allow the camera to lock in the focus (it will beep). Then, while holding the button in, you can recompose the shot and when the moment is right, press the rest of the way for an "instant" (or close to it) shot.

How do I prevent constant blurred pictures when taking shots of kids in my family. It also takes at least 3 seconds from when I press shutter button to when camera takes picture..often too late to get...

You need to practice the correct shutter button technique. You need to press the shutter button half-way and wait for the focus to lock (it will beep) and then, when the moment is right, press the rest of the way for an instant picture with no "lag time".

Long delay from the time I push down on the button to take the picture and the actual picture is there anyway to speed that up

Pre-focus by pressing the shutter button half-way until the camera beeps, then press the rest of the way when the moment is right.

Time betwween taking picture and actual shutter actuation to slow

Push the button half-way and allow the camera to focus before pressing the rest of the way. By pre-focussing, you can wait for just the right moment before pressing the rest of the way.

Sony DSC H-5 Camera slow response time

There is a diaphram between the shutter button and the shutter that does the focus. Pushing the button half way down pre-focuses and then the picture is instantanious. If the diaphram is broken it take a while before the shutter takes the picture. One of the AA batteries may be defective so try another set and see if that is better. There is also a slight possibility that the secondary battery (hidden within the camera) has gone bad.

I found a solution that worked for me further on in this site. The person said to reset the camera. On my Sony DSC-W100, I opened the battery/memory slot door and to the left of the memory slot there's a tiny gray dot that I pressed and the problem has gone away.
