Question about Dell Dimension 3000 PC Desktop
My son and I are trying to get A+ certified. We have a windows 98 computer, and we would like to use it to learn about computers. We would like to upgrade it to a newer operation system, even if it is only temporary for the experience of it. We are also having trouble doing anything on the computer because it has only 16 colors. We tried to change the colors, but it only gives us the choice of 2 colors, or 16 colors. I have been trying to find drivers to install, but I am not sure of a safe place to download drivers. It is a dell dimension L933r....it has 20 gig hard drive, and pentium II processor, 255.0 mb RAM ....soo I really have 2 questions:
1. Can I use my own windows xp disc for my dell to upgrade his computer?
2. How do I get drivers to the windows 98 computer if I cannot access the internet on that pc due to lack of certain drivers...i.e....can I burn the drivers on another computer and then install them through the cd drive on the windows computer?
OR should I just forget this crazy idea???? :)
I have a Dell Dimension L433c. I recently installed Ubuntu 10.06 and it is like a new computer. Gets to the internet, burns CDs, etc. etc. The problem is, I think, that the mainboard Monitor connection is low resolution and Ubuntu can't find the SVGA card so resolution is limited to 800x400. Otherwise, I like Ubuntu better by far than Win98SE. I did have it running XP a couple years ago and that was fine also. It is a question of time and money. I hope to learn enough about Ubuntu to get the display to a better resolution using the SVGA card.

You could use your XP cd to bootup and upgrade your computer, you can download complete drivers for your PC on www.driverguide.com, just register and you will have access on thousands of drivers on their site.

a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
