Question about Acer TravelMate 2300 Notebook

1 Answer

Acer power cord connection

I have had 2 acer laptops
both have developed problems with the connection of power cord to computer
for the first one, i was told i would have to replace the motherboard

now my travelMate 2303LCi has developed the same problem
and the only way it works is if i use the cord from the older laptop

i did not think i would have thos problem as i avoided disconnecting at the trouble spot

i'd like to get them both running and keep the more recent one running for another year or so

just bought and returned a Toshiba and i do not think i want to deal with windows vista

can i track down used motherboards?
san i jimmy the connection in some way?

Don't pull your hair out,.. it's not an uncommon issue.
You don't have to replace your board. At least one of them sounds like the connector has come loose
or has issues, and needs replaced. The other sounds like the adapter itself. I ordered a new adapter on
Ebay this morning for about $28 total for a Compaq Presario and all laptop models seem to be about
the same price for adapters on that site. As far as replacing the connector,.. you in luck, there are
several places on ebay that you can send the laptop to ad they will diagnose the laptop and if it
is the connector they have a 1 day turnaround. Think that service is about $100 or so possibly
cheaper. On EBay search for 'laptop power jack repair'.

If you don't feel the value of your laptop is enough to warrant such an expense you can order a
replacement jack instead and try and tackle replacing it yourself. ( there are listings to order
just the power jack )

Laptop has power but won't boot up

There are three possible reasons why it's acting like that.

1. Defective AC Adapter or Power cord
2. Defective Motherboard
3. Defective Battery

First off, you need to isolate the part which causing the issue. Please follow the following steps:

1. Remove the battery and use the power cord alone in powering up your computer. If it goes well, then you need to replace the battery. If no go, then try using a different known good outlet.

2. Check the acer power adapter (the box) if there's a light lit. If it's green, then it's should be working fine. If it's amber or nothing at all, then there's a problem with it. You might need to replace that.

3. If the AC adapter looks good, then try to wiggle the cord so that you can check if the cord is properly connected to the computer. Usually, cords get loose and it causes problems. If it has this kind of problem, then you need to get a technician to check that for you because you might need to buy a new motherboard for that.

Please do the above simple steps, and let me know if anything happens. I hope this can solve the issue.

No power

When you say no power, that's a bit vague. Try another AC outlet, Try another cord/charger/transformer with the EXACT same power specs. Has the cord been pulled, while connected to the laptop, damaging the AC jack? Have you tested the cord for correct DC voltage? You get NO LED's? Nothing? Remove Battery, reseat the Memory Mods, replace the CMOS battery.

Acer Aspire 5536 only gives black screen when i connect power supply

  • Nothing is more annoying than a monitor that refuses to turn on. Make sure your Acer monitor is plugged in to a functioning outlet. If it's plugged into a power strip, try replacing it with a new one or moving the plug to a different outlet. Ensure that both ends of the power cable are plugged in firmly and securely, and that the connection to the monitor is not loose.
Cable Issues
  • Your Acer LCD monitor will usually accept DVI and VGA inputs. If you have an older computer, a VGA cable should work fine. If it doesn't have a VGA port, you'll need to obtain an inexpensive DVI to VGA adapter at your local computer store. A DVI cable, however, is compatible with most modern computers and offers superior picture quality over VGA. Make sure you're using the cable that's compatible with your system, and that you have the proper conversion adapter, if necessary.

Acer 53338 lap top got power but won't turn on

Remove main battery and try again, next sub out the ram memory one at a time and power up each time. If still unsuccessfull the DC jack in the laptop is the most likely problem, they often develop bad connections at the DC plug source causing all kinds of symptoms, the computer must be dismantled down to the motherboard level to address this.

My compaq presario cq60 won,t turn on. the power light next to the charger cable is on but it won,t turn on

Hello,

The charger is functioning well. There are still two possible reasons why your computer is not turning on. 1. The battery, 2. The computer itself.

What you need to do is to isolate the problem.

Here's what you can do to isolate the problem.

1. Remove the battery from the computer.
2. Turn on the computer using the cord. Remember not to put back the battery yet. Just the cable and the computer connected. If the computer turns on, then, you need to replace the battery.
3. If it still not turning on by using the cord alone. Try to wiggle the cord to check whether it's loose or not. Check if there are some signs of power on the computer. If there is a power like lights lit in the computer, then, it's the computer that's having the problem. You need to bring it to a technician if that's the situation.

Please let me know if there are any development after doing the troubleshooting above so that I can get back to you if you need my help.

Thank you for using fixya.com

Hello,

There are three possible reasons why your computer is experiencing this power problem. What you need to do is to isolate the component that's causing it.

These are the parts which should be checked:
1. Power supply
2. Battery
3. Motherboard of the laptop.

Here's the procedure that you have to follow:

1.
Remove the battery from the computer.

2. Power the computer up with the power cord only without the battery on it.

3. Check if it works perfectly without any problems even if the battery is out. If it works, then, the battery needs to be replaced. (Note: Batteries are disposable parts. They usually die after 2 years of usage depending on how you use it.)

4.If no go even without the battery on it, check the ac adapter or cord if there's a light lit on the box of the cord. If no lights on it, double check the connection. If connections seem ok but no power, then, replace the power cord.

5. If power cord seem fine, check the hole in the computer where you plug in the cord. What you need to check is if there are any sign of damages. Wiggle the cord and see if there are lights lit in the laptop.

I hope this help.

My Acer 3680 laptop can barely get a charge

There is 2 possible problems, 1) the connector on the computer side (motherboard) is damaged and 2) the power cord from the power supply is damaged.

1) you can really a lot about unless you bring it to a computer shop to repair. BUT I would check for #2

2) Go to a computer store like best buy and get a universal power supply that works for your laptop and try it out first. If it works well. then its not #1 problem.

Acer apire 3000 a/c adaptor

Why did you have to buy a new adaptor? Did it suddenly stop working or was the problem intermittent?

It's my guess the adaptors are fine - very unlikely all three are bad - It's the connector in the laptop that's the problem - it's loose or was pushed too far in at some point so it can't make a tight connection. A good tech should be able to solder it on the inside. Hopefully, you can return at least one of the adaptors.

Good luck.
