I've gad my Dell Dimension for about a year with no problems. I have McAfee's security Center on it to protect against viruses and spyware. However, over the last two weeks, the computer is running extremely slow, I've had to manually close applicaions thru task manager and that dosen't work sometimes so all I'm left with is to reboot. Can anyone provide assistance? Thanks.
Hello, i have had this problem with my dell, and believe it or not, it is probably your mcafee. Your mcafee could be using most of your processor and your ram, i suggest to reinstall mcafee, look at some upgrades for ram (Random Acess Memory), or buy a new anti virus/anti spyware. Such as eset, norton, zone alarm, and many others.I hope that this helped you!

The Windows Firewall is different from MCafee Security Centre. And if it has a X on it that means Ur MCafee Protection is disabled or May be expired.
To Check that, Just click on the MCafee Icon on the desktop or on the botton right hand corner, and check if its disabled or u needs to renew it.
Your Tech Support,
Hello sorry for your problem, push the F6 function key and go into Safe Mode and then remove McAfee from your computer. Go Into the control panel and click on Add/Remove Software, once Mcafee is remove reboot your computer and reinstall it if you choose, but you must go into the advance move and learn how to allow other programs to access the internet. There are other anti-virus software that are not memory hogs. Like AVG
Try starting your computer in safe mode and do a virus scan once in safe mode. While in safe mode Windows only loads the basic devices to run your computer and usually viruses are not loaded untill windows starts in regular mode. Don't panic once you are in safe mode and your screen looks all grainy, this is normal.
Restart your computer and press F8 as soon as you turn it on.
Click the "safe mode with networking" option
Update your antivirus
Do a full system scan
Restart your computer and hope for the best.
If that doesn't work, than reinstall windows. If you need further assistance, let me know.
Avast is the best free antivirus there is. google it, install it, and enjoy your computer again.Another option is to reinstall windows. If you have the cd that came with the computer than put it in the cd rom and restart your computer and follow onscreen instructions.
Every time you install an application on your computer, it is communicating with a remote center, in your case with McAfee Security Center. In order to be able to do so, it installs a small widget on your computer, to identify your settings and login information by the remote server. It is possible that somebody hacked into your computer while somehow your protection was down, and made a copy of the cookies. As a matter of fact it is possible that the intruder got acces to your registration data with Mc Afee and it is using illegaly your personal keycode.
Suggestion: - write or call McAfee and explain them all the situation and ask for a new keycode.
2. Expired licence
Usually the licence for anti-virus or other software applications, provided together with an electronic equipment, have a promo quality first of all. As a matter of fact, the duration of a licence is for a limited period of time.
Suggestion: - check if there exists any data related to licence expiration date
3. Limited number of install attempts
Some software providers are using the system of limited number of installs, especially if the software is acquired as a promo package with an IT&C equipment.
Suggestion: - check when you install the software if in the agreement is specified something about limited number of install attempts
