Music cd's both reading and writing. I have a separate DVD drive that works, but I'd like both to work.

ok..these things do fail after a time..you had this one for a while? And, as most folks can do, one or the other gets used most, and that will wear them down. I compare the new mechanisms for cd/dvd players to the old floppy disks, which had a truly short operational life. Good thing they are cheap and easy to replace.

DVD LightScribe R/RW drive not recognized by OS on HP Pavilion D4100Y 32 bit Windows XP

Hi Bob.

You will have to take the side panel off the computer and check that the power cable is connected to the DVD/RW, if it is and you have no LED indicators or the tray won't open it is a strong possibility that that the drive itself has failed and you will need to replace it with a new one. Optical drives are very cheap these days not costing much over 20 dollars or 10 pounds. DVD optical drives are plug and play so the operating system will already have the drivers preinstalled.

Regards.

I got this computer and the cd door isnt opening i thinks its jammed but i dont know

What you can do to get it open is there is a small hole on the cd drive. take a paperclip and straiten it ans strait as you can get it and put it strait in that hole and push then also you may need to push the eject button at the same time :)

CD stuck.......all eject options do not work...going to start- computor and right clicking on selected drive does not work- error occurred while ejecting DVD RW Drive ...reboot, restart, unplugging has no...

When the cd is stuck and won't eject try looking for a small pinhole on the front of the cd rom drive. This is the "manual eject" or release. Stick the end of a paper clip in there and it should release it.

Cd rom does not read CDs.

Hi
The fasted and easiest way to eliminate Windows being the cause of a read problem is to remove the IDE cable from the drive and insert a CD into the drive once the system is powered on again. You should notice some change in the LED of the CD-ROM, at least it should blink for a few seconds. Usually if the LED goes out or turns red it would point towards a faulty drive - which you have already seem to establish.

One last shot to try before dumping the CD-ROM for good is to update the Firmware of the ROM drive - altough a long shot I have seen this work a number of times.

As Insomniac says CD-ROM's are very cheap to purchase these days

Insomniac I am remember when these ROM drives were very expensive - do you remember when the first Burners came out? As slow as a tractor and expensive as a Ferrari

Both Drivers for CD Roms wont work for Dell Dem 2400

The two devices are both hooked to your secondary IDE channel. It could be that the IDE controller driver is corrupt or missing. Go to the Dell website, download and reinstall the CHIPSET driver, which includes the IDE channels. Then reboot. The driver page is here:)

http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&ServiceTag=&SystemID=DIM_PNT_P4_CEL_2400&os=WW1&osl=en&catid=&impid=

Failing that, verify that the drives are visible in the BIOS setup. When you restart and see the Dell splash screen, press F2 to go into the BIOS setup, come down to Drive Info and see if the model is reported for the two opticals. Perhaps it got disabled there, but not likely unless you were changing settings.

Another possibility is whether you removed and CD/DVD recording software recently (Sonic, Roxio, Nero) as these may have changed the registry entries related to your CD/DVD drives.

If nothing works, please post the specific error code reported by the Device Manager. Right click on each drive in the Device Manager and it should be listed in the device status box.

Need drivers for Compaq Presario 5FR122

You can download the drivers for the MB, Video, audio, modem, & LAN etc. for your model Compaq from www.compaq.com
You do not need drivers for DVD ROM and CD-RW, you may need some software/plug-ins for to play DVD movies.

How can I tell if my comuter has a DVD/CD drive or just a CD drive?

Normally, the front edge of the Drive tray will indicate CD, CD-RW, DVD or DVD-RW.

You can also check in Device Manager inside Windows (Press the Windows Flag Key+Pause Key, Hardware Tab, Device Manager button) Click the + next to DVD/CD-ROM Drives, and see what model drive is listed. If DVD isn't part of the drive model, it is a CD drive only.

DVD DRIVE WORKS, BUT CD DRIVE DEAD

Try using the manual eject that is as small as a pinhole just below or beside the CD drive. Once you find out that you can manually eject you may be able to insert a cleaning cd to clean the device.

If that doesn't work check device manager to see if it has the proper driver or if it's recognized that it's installed in the system.
