I formated my Sony Walkman NWD-B105F MP3 player, because it has a virus. Then when the formating was completed I added new music. Now when I turn it on it says Boot Error, so I guess I might deleted something important. What can I do now?

My Sony Walkman NWD-B103F keep turning off and on by itself, and when it turns on again, i usually push the 'play' button to play songs, but each time I do that, it turns off back again by itself and then, turn back on..this process keep on going until the battery running out.after I recharge it, the same things happen, on and on and on. What could be the problem?

    Hi everyone,

I think my problem is the hardest one so far...
I used my Sony Walkman NWD-B105F MP3 Player on a pc that I didn't know was infected with "funny-UST scandal virus"...I just copied a regular mp3 file from that pc..
When I disconnected my mp3 player, it suddenly went crazy..
the "walkman logo" and the "creating database" keeps on showing..
I tried to press all the buttons but it won't respond. When I pressed reset, the player turns itself off, then when I turn it back on, same thing happens.
Now I panicked a little bit and hooked the mp3 player on my virus free pc..but it won't detect the player?!!!!!!

    what should i do?

    Thanks so much..

I bought a NWD-B103F sony mp3 player last year. The mp3 player was working just fine till the same problem as discussed had popped out recent after 2 weeks i had left it untouched. Even I had followed the solutions given, I updated the firmware to version 1.2, I even tried the "pressing play button while inserting the player to USB port" method, the problem remained. I sent the mp3 player to the nearest sony service centre (still under warranty), they fixed it in one day and contacted me to get back the mp3. For my disappointment, I brought the player home and tried it out, the problem still unsolved. So, I'd like to know is there any other useful solutions because all other solutions given I had attempted resulted failure. Thanks for all the concern!

Hey,guys!! I actually found out a solution regarding on the problem by myself, accidentally, lol. As you guys mentioned, everytime you try to play a song, the device automatically turned off itself. Now, i'll tell the trick behind. You may simply hold the "Play/Pause" button and don't let it go. At the mean time, try to select song by pressing "Next/Previous" button. The moment you select song, you let go the "Play/Pause" and hold it on again within a million second (that's mean you need to do it damn fast). Right now, you're listening your favourite song, but you can't just let your thumb keep pressing the "Play/Pause" button, right? Here is the "HOLD" button comes to work, you flip the "HOLD" button to activate it. TADA! You can let go your thumb and relax yourself with the songs playing. The battery will eventually dies out, nevermind though, you always can recharge it. Repeating these steps everytime you want to listen songs, my mp3 actually fixed on its own. I admit that it's still not the best solution it appears to be,but you guys should really try it out, you're not just going to give up your mp3 like that, agree? haha, all the best and good luck!

Hey, guys. I just fixed this problem. My mp3 cant be detected at first too. You have to hold the play button when you connected the computer. Then the computer will detected. After it be detected, update the firmware. It 100% works. and fu*k sony.

I had NWZ-B105F. Tried everything and it was still giving me "Booot error". Returned it to the store. I like all the features and the sound quality but maybe if enough people return their players, Sony will release a good fimware update that works! BTW my new Sony player works faster, more responsive, than the old one..

Posted on Apr 26, 2008

I've tried the firmware update but he PC isn't recognise the deivce + the USB connect is perminatly on with battery charging going on. Tried in two other PCs but to no avail. There is a reset button to press which does diddle squat. Had a similar problem on a warfdale (spelling) mp3 player also. They shouldn't be messing up only 3 months of ownership. Don't supose there are any button presses or things that can be done to reset to factory default/

Posted on Mar 10, 2008

You have to download the new firmware, thats all folks

Hi all,

Related to the problem posted by GIN_BAYABAS, I had the same problem....

To fix it I just delete (through the windows explorer) a WMA file I had copied to my MP3 player. After disconnect it from the PC occured a "BOOT ERROR". I pressed the RESET button and the MP3 player became OK/normal.
I don't know whether it was a mere coincidence but it worked!

ps: I didn't copy the same WMA file again to prove this theory....I am not crazy! hehehehehe

I hope it works for all!

Best regards,

Alberto

ps2. Sorry my english....I am from Brazil.

SOURCE: BOOT ERROR

Try reflashing the firmware for your device you can find the latest firmware and flashing utilities from the manufacturer?s website. Make sure that you back your music up first because when you do this you are setting it back to factory settings.

Boot error

Problem Solved: My MMP8567 screen read ''boot error shutting down''.
Everytime I plugged it in to the computer the computer would find it but then it would disappear almost immediately.
I downloaded the Updater program from Memorex but it couldn't find the player.
The directions from Memorex said ''Hold down the play button and plug in usb cable.'' 'Another set of Memorex directions said, ''Hold down the power button and plug in usb cable.'' Neither worked for me.
SOLUTION: I finally held down the LOCK/UNLOCK button and plugged in the usb cable. My computer found the player immediately and a software driver window popped up asking for a driver. I let windows search the internet and it found and installed the driver. The driver it was looking for was: ''player recover device class driver'' After windows confirmed it recognized my mp3 player I started up the Firmware update program and was able to update the player.
I tried to be clear and detailed. Good Luck ;-)

BOOT ERROR - SHUTTING DOWN

There are two ways to format an Mp3 player - one on the computer itself, and one in Windows Media Player. Both methods will end up erasing all the songs on the player, but the player will be "good as new" after that. Sometimes reformatting in this manner will override the player's native formatting and cause problems - this can be reversed in most cases by updating the player's firmware. Firmware upgrades are available from most manufacturers' websites.

WARNING: The following procedures will erase all songs on the player.

Check if the file system is NTFS. If yes, format it to FAT or FAT32. - Connect player to computer, double-click my computer, right click on icon of mp3 player and select format. This only applies to Windows-based computers.
You can also format the player in Windows Media Player itself:
Connect your Mp3 player to the computer and open Windows Media Player. Click on the Sync tab. Pull down the drop down menu underneath the Sync tab by moving your cursor over the Sync tab and left clicking on the little black arrow underneath the Sync tab. Highlight "name of Mp3 player here 1GB" (wording may vary slightly), and then select "Format." - this should erase everything.

Hey

It is easier to reformat the mp3 player. When the mp3 is plugged in to the PC, go to my computer, the double click the mp3 player there. You will see internal storage, right click that and click format. You will lose all the stuff on the mp3 player.
