Question about Televison & Video
I have a couple of DVD's that are a few years old. They havent been played much and have been safely stored etc but the surface of these discs has developed a sticky cloudy film. When put into a player the discs skip and the picture freezes. What is the cause of the problem and is it fixable? I have heard stories about "DVD rot" but is this a genuine problem or an urban myth?
If surface gets "yucked" up the laser mechanism cannot see or read the data encoded on its surface. Try cleaning the surface with a wet paste made of baking soda and scrub it in good. It cleans without scratching the plastic surface coating. You have to get rid of the surface film that is causing the issue without scratching the plastic. Good luck!

SOURCE: DVD Freezing / skipping
It almost has to be the discs. Try them in a friends unit.
I had a similar problem with DVD's I burned and had printed labels and put the label on the discs. It caused the disc to be out of balance. I peeled them all off (what a job) and the discs play fine now. I'm now a "magic marker" person... :)

This just worked for me. Don't know how long it will last though. I found it on this webpage
To do a reset:
On the remote control press the SETUP button,
Press the right key on the remote 3 times,
The Preference page will show up,
Press the down arrow five time to highlight
"default", hit right arrow to highlight "reset"
Press enter to reset. Turn off/on machine, etc.

I too have this same problem on my current DVD player, AND strangely enough I had the same problem on my previous player.
Previous player was made multi region and was a Sony S660 (I think that was the model number).
My current DVD player is a Denon and was £550! It is also made multi region and has the same problems! I don't get it!
