Bad SMT connector on main board

The small surface mount connector that connects the main board to the video board shows signs of corrosion and needs to be replaced (some contacts are open). Do you know of anyone that can replace the connector?

Thanks for trying, I do not have soldering equipment that small. Also, it does look like the previous owner attempted that kind of repair. The places where the solder was applied have caused even more corrosion. I was hoping to locate someone with SMT rework equipment that could remove and replace the connector. Again, thanks for the tip.

Mmm. a very small tipped soldering iron
while working under a mantis pcb magnifier.
you'll need a steady hand.....
don't however try to remove the sm connector, this will probably only wreck the pcb. try to use small wires to make the connections and bypass rather than try to rescue the connector.

The problem might be very hard to repair if those led lights are SMT (surface mount technology) those diodes could be as small as this print. The case may be compression fit.

you can but unless you do a lot of work on mother boards and have the right equipment, you will probably burn the copper circuit and make it worse

Problems with lights front and rear

Has to be a connection issue, and with fuse boxes, many will have contact issues if moiture gets into fuse box. Look for fuse connector corrosion for your fuse for lights, which usually are marked in your fuse box cover or manual. Once you know which fuse is for your headlights and tailights, look for a white residue on connector, sure sign of corrosion, then simply clean with contact cleaner, or take small brush or tooth brush and clean contacts, then scratch surface with small screw driver and plug back fuse, of course, assuming fuse is not broken or defective. It is rare to have fuses be the problem with intermitent connection problems, but not impossible.

Good luck,

Charging circuit motherboard

That is the DC - DC circuit.
You will find it is the same circuitry that surrounds, where the DC Power Jack is soldered to on the motherboard; or where the DC Power Harness plugs into the motherboard.

[DC Power Jack attached to a small cable (Wires)
The cable ends in a male plug connector.
This now = DC Power Harness ]

This is an example of a DC to DC circuit on a laptop motherboard, and using the HP Pavilion dv6000 series, and Pavilion dv9000 series; of Notebook PC's.
It also shows the main electronic components that fail;
Power MOSFET's,

http://mayohardware.blogspot.com/2010/04/important-parts-on-dv6000-and-dv9000.html

The Fairchild Semiconductor Industries - FDS6679 - Power MOSFET; and the Alpha & Omega Semiconductor LTD - AO4407 - Power MOSFET, is used.

http://www.mouser.com/Search/Refine.aspx?Keyword=FDS6679

Scroll down. Here we see the FDS6679 is Obsolete.
Let's take a look at the cross-reference example given,

http://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/Fairchild-Semiconductor/FDS6679AZ/?qs=sGAEpiMZZMshyDBzk1%2fWi1qxDdW%2fXBi2qgMuZEfLVO4%3d

One dollar and one penny - USD

Now for the AO4407,

http://www.mouser.com/Search/Refine.aspx?Keyword=AO4407

Using the first cross-reference example given,

http://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/Diodes-Inc/DMP3020LSS-13/?qs=%2fha2pyFadujguNNSgppBRqXbOxXLwzGsZm9SWxz1EqWpzoSJOpHpWA%3d%3d

78 cents - USD

These are SMD/SMT.
Surface Mount Device/Surface Mount Technology,

Now I would like you to take a look at another electronic component that may fail. The MLCC's.
Multi-Layer Ceramic Capacitor.
They are also SMD/SMT.

Look at the second photo down on the Playtool link.
Shows the AO4407 circled in Yellow.
(You can click on the photo to enlarge)

See the small rectangular object to the immediate right, of the AO4407? Has a dark wide band in the middle of it.

There is one above it, one above that one at the Top; one to the right of the top one, and one to the right of it.
(Last one is mounted Horizontally. The others are mounted Vertically)

There are also 4 more smaller versions, at the Bottom/Left corner; of the AO4407.
These are MLCC's.

Here is an example close up. I'm going to use a 4.7uF (Microfarad), 16 Volt example,

Acer 5740 no power. no light etc. charger is ok. also charger connector on motherboard is ok. what can be the problem. seems like some faulty parts on motherboard

Charger = AC adapter
Charger connector = DC Power Jack. Abbreviated as DC_IN

Faulty parts on motherboard?
Power MOSFET's, and/or MLCC's, and/or SMD fuse.
Could also be bad SMD/SMT diodes.

!O_O!

Using the HP Pavilion dv6000, and Pavilion dv9000 series of Notebook PC's, as an example,

http://mayohardware.blogspot.com/2010/04/important-parts-on-dv6000-and-dv9000.html

See the first photo? That '8-legged creature' is a Fairchild Semiconductor Industries - FDS6679 - Power MOSFET.

Those '8-legs' are J-leads.

http://www.mouser.com/Search/Refine.aspx?Keyword=fds6679

The FDS6679 is obsolete, so we will use the cross-reference example - FSS6679AZ.

http://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/Fairchild-Semiconductor/FDS6679AZ/?qs=sGAEpiMZZMsrr1kXJis%252bJwONNw%252bcopWaDOKRGBUF24Q%3d

Observe the second photo down. Has the Alpha & Omega Semiconductor Limited - AO4407 - Power MOSFET in it.

http://www.mouser.com/Search/Refine.aspx?Keyword=AO4407

Here we see it is obsolete also. Using one of the cross-reference examples,

http://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/Diodes-Inc/DMP3020LSS-13/?qs=%2fha2pyFadujguNNSgppBRqXbOxXLwzGsZm9SWxz1EqWpzoSJOpHpWA%3d%3d

By the way, did you notice that one FDS6679 is $1.01 USD?
The AO4407 substitute above is 78 Cents USD.

Looking back at the second photo again, with the AI4407 in it;
Look at the immediate bottom/right corner, or the Ai4407 circled in Yellow.

That is an MLCC. Multi-Layer Ceramic Capacitor

You will also see one to the immediate right.
Small rectangular object, with a dark wide band in the middle of it.

There's one above it, one above that one (Top), one to the right of the top one, and one to the right of it.
There are 4 smaller examples to the bottom/left corner of the AO4407.

You can use a low wattage soldering iron. You don't need a soldering station.

Capacitors that we use in computers, are rated in Microfarads.
(uF)
I'm going to show examples of MLCC's, that are rated in capacitance at 4.7uF, and 16 Volts. (DC)

[They are also SMD/SMT
Surface Mount Device/Surface Mount Technology.
So are the Power MOSFET's ]

Where can I get a replacement iPod connector circuit board?

The ipod connector on the board has the same footprint as the angled iPod connector made by JAE, part number DD1B030VA1. Someone moderately skilled in PCB rework should be able to replace it. The part is SMT with 0.5mm pitch pins, and it's right up against an epoxy blob, so it takes a bit of skill to solder by hand.
I called Altec Lansing myself and they will not sell a replacement part, so I am repairing my own.

Hi Does anyone have a part number (Digi-Key, TYCO, Molex, Hi-roes...etc...) for the surface mount USB connector on the Garmin Nuvi 200 series....

My research seems to show that this is a proprietary SMT straight (not 90 degree) Mini USB connector.....
Everything I have seen is a right angle connector.....

If anyone finds a part number for this, please post the answer....

Does any one have any pics of how to replace the fuse on l42wd22

Here is some info I found. VERIFY the part # etc for you tv.
For SMT surface mount parts, soldering on top may be easier if you do not have the fancier soldering equipment.

Here is the RCA part # for the replacement 275819, it's a 750ma 63V fuse. No need to remove the old one just solder on top of the existing one.Remove rear and bottom screw holding the tv plastics together. Then open up the digital board cover(the one with all the connections going to it). In the upper left hand corner near the large flat ribbon connector ie40 they will see a surface mount cap. I think its 100UFD at 16v. Just to the right of it is a small surface mounted fuse, has an F stamped on it. This is the fuse that opens up.

The Fuse sells for $3.90 or so.

The 275819 is a service bulletin replacement #TV08-001 so you shouldn't have any problems after replacement with this one.

Open fuse 1c33, located on main pcb appx 1/2 inch from top edge and 1/2 inch from left edge. may not be marked as a fuse. see rca bulletin tv08-001 for pix.

Screen is lluminated but has no display

Look like the surface mount Capactors on the monitors circuit board have dried up. Open the monitors main housing ( not the screen side ) and pull out the circuit board that connects up to power and main brain cable. Look at the silver capacitors solder legs and if you see any that have corrosion then they have leaked out their acid and are faulty. Replace all if you want the job done right.

Mitsubishi VS-50707 50 in. Rear Projection...

There is a quick test you can do to determine if the problem is in your PIP module, using two 4.7uf/50v electrolytic capacitors. The PIP module plugs into two connectors on the main board. Remove the PIP module, and on connector VP on the main board (the 11 pin connector), use one cap to jumper from pin 7 to 9 (negative lead on pin 9); and use the other cap to jumper from pin 5 to 11 (negative lead on pin 11). If the PIP module is bad, you will now have video. The PIP module has surface mount capacitors that go bad. Just make sure you solder a small lentgh of wire to the capacitor leads to prevent them from shorting as they cross over each other. Just plug the wires into the socket no need to solder them.
