Agitator skips and is noisy. Isn't moving like it should. Almost like the agitator is only "catching" once in a while. Can it be fixed or do I need a new machine?
That's an easy fix... the agitator will need to be removed... usually only involving one screw in the top of it... the parts you need are called dog agits... they come in a package of 4... once you get the agitator apart you'll see where they go... shouldn't be a problem for ya... if you have any questions about it just holler at me
Depending on the model, the agitator typically has what's called "agitator dogs" or small yellow odd-shaped items (dew drops) that fit inside the agitator assembly. There are four of them that have a small edging or grip on the tip of each one that catches a portion of the agitator as it turns. If the edging or grip is worn out, then there will be virtually no movement of the agitator.
Other items that could be the problem include:
* the agitator spline, which has grooves that fit on the transmission shaft inside of the inner tub. If the agitatator assembly is completely removed from inside of the inner tub you should be able to see the spline
* the other related item to the spline would be the agitator's grooves that correspond or fit on the transmission shaft's grooves. The agitator's grooves will usually be molded as part of the agitator. If these are worn out, then the agitator will usually not move properly.
There's
never a good time for the washer to stop working correctly. If a
washing machine's agitator isn't working properly, your clothes won't
come clean.
The back-and-forth movement of the agitator is a main
function in the cleaning process of your laundry.
If your agitator
isn't working, it could be the agitator itself or broken splines in the
assembly beneath the agitator. Either one is a relatively easy and
inexpensive repair that you should be able to do yourself.
