Try changing the IDE cable, if this does not work enter BIOS setup utilityand ensure HDD detection mode is either aouto select or IDE depending on your BIOS you may have to look for a setting that allows you to use IDE not SATA or both.

Desktop Acer M1641: 1 IDE optical drive+ 1 SATA HDD. When SATA disabled, both drives appear in Bios n boot sequence. When SATA enbled, only optical drive in Bios. When both are present (as said before)...

During the boot process you will see on the screen to press a certain key to enter setup
Press and hold that key during the boot up process to enter BIOS the scroll down to advanced bios features press enter change your first boot device to IDE-1 means Pri slave escape then press f10 to save to cmos to restart
you will have to have master with slave set up
you can find the jumper location next to the power on a hard drive and the settings for plastic jumper location is usually printed on the top of a hard drive
IDE-0 means Pri master ?
IDE-1 means Pri slave ?
IDE-2 means Sec master ?
IDE-3 means Sec slave ?

Hope this helps

Computer powers on and runs but it will not post hhd in BIOS. any help?

Shut down you're system. Open you're case and double check the power cable and data cable from hdd to motherboard. (Disconnect both cables and re-connect both). Make sure the cables are fully inserted. Power up the system and enter the bios. The hdd drive should be listed. If not replace the data cable with a new one and check the bios again.
If you have two hdd, ATA IDE drives connected, make sure that each hdd is jumpered correctly. One set to Master with a slave.
The second drive should be jumpered as a slave.
If you're running 1 hdd make sure the hdd is jumper as a Master without a slave. There is a sticker on the hdd to help you set the jumper correctly.
If the bios still does not see you're hdd than either the hdd is bad or the motherboard controller is bad.
To check if the hdd is faulty, check the sticker on the drive. Find the manufacture's name and model. Google the manufacture's name. Every manufacture provides free software that will test and repair the drive by allowing you to create either a bootable floppy disk or bootable CD disk that runs in a DOS like window. Example: For a Seagate drive you would download SeaTools for DOS. Instructions are listed on the site; http://www.seagate.com/www/en-us/support/downloads/seatools
Seagate also supports Maxtor drives using the same software.

Good luck!
Cheers'

Vt82c693a motherboard cant show ide hdd in award gui bios check

There may be a need to check the Jumper settings on the IDE drive, I would make sure the jumper is in the master setting and also to try to keep the cd rom connected also when you boot it up again.

Hard disk not dectecting

Is your Hard disk running at all ?
Can you hear some spinning noise and vibrations when it starts running?

Check the jumper settings (Master/Slave/Single).

If you have another device connected on the same cable (HDD/CD), check jumper settings on that device too.
You may first try to disconnect other device (if connected).

It is a very old PC, try replacing the data cable of your HDD, and pay attention of the correct connection of cable to the motherboard and HDD, too !
Check BIOS settings if both IDE channels are enabled.

Regards.

IDE Problem (I Think)

Depends what kind of motherboard is. You may want to check with a different IDE ribbon cable. Make sure that the IDE controller is ENABLED within BIOS. Set the HDD as Master - see those jumpers next to the power and data connectors. Try with another (IDE) HDD and see if the controller is working. Don't asume the 1st HDD is working OK, you never know ...it may be broken now ...

Connecting an IDE HDD to a SATA port using an IDE to SATA converter

Not complete product...need to buy additional adapter for IDE to SATA power source.
IDE drive will have to have the power source hooked up as well as the adaptor hooked up.
Installing the adaptor only will not work. Your computer should have the 4 pin plug for the power to the IDE drive, other wise you will have to buy another adaptor.

No Boot (system does post) - Hard drives not detected • Check jumper settings on all IDE devices • Verify that IDE controller is configured correctly in the BIOS • Check to make sure that the drive is connected to the correct controller • Make sure drives are configured correctly for RAID • Verify Onchip IDE configuration for ICH5 SATA operation is set correctly • Test drives with different IDE/SATA cables
