We have a Sony trinitron KV 32HS420. Tried to turn it on today and it shuts itself off. Noticed that the standby/timer light is blinking intermitently. Unplugged it for a few minutes and did not help.
You probably have a main or high voltage power supply problem; the latter produces the 20,000 plus volts for the CRT and gets its voltage from the main supply.

It sounds that the standby light blinks, and the set do not turn on. These blinks are fault indications. Fromm these number of blinks, you can get an idea about the faulty circuit part inside. Count these blinks. How many occurs at one time switch ON. Count it for at least to times switch on. If you wish to get more details about the blinking codes to Sony TVs, check this site.
Sounds like a diode may have burnt up or if your really lucky it might just be the fuse.!!! You might want to get a secound opinion .But if you know what to look for , which is any component on the motherboard that appears as if had caught fire sader it out amd replace with exact same component which can be ubtained at radio shack.GOOD LUCK TOO YOU!!!!!!!!!
You have what is commonly known as a shutdown problem. It's an overload in one of the internal circuits. It needs to be looked at by a professional tv reapir person.
The blinking standby light is an indicator that an internal safety circuit has kicked in. The light shouldbe blinking a repeated pattern of count/pause/count etc. Can you please post the count here? That will indicate the problem circuit and allow us to provide you with the solution.
